see relatedPhantom of the Musical?
My wife and I went to watch Phantom of the Opera last night. It was incredible except for one little detail. My wife informs that it's not an opera. It's a musical. And I had just spent the day bragging about how I'm going to see my first opera. I mean, Phantom of the OPERA is not an opera?! That's like saying Grey's Anatomy isn't actually about medicine. Or that Pink Floyd is not a person, but a band, none of whose names are Pink or Floyd. So don't be fooled folks. Just because Phantom is a play as told by song, with only about 10 spoken lines in it, it is not an opera. And FYI, "musical" in Icelandic is söngleikur.

I really wish I had read your entry before I commented in your wife's post. I called it an opera so I imagine I'll be called on it as well. I thought it was an opera too. You'd think they'd call it Phantom of the Musical if it was a musical or at least something cool like Phantom of the Chuck Norris Roundhouse Kick.
By the way, I saw another motorcycle accident guy this morning so I think my motorcycle license is now retired. So sorry you didn't actually get to see an opera. I've been to several - if you can get to a production of "The Magic Flute" or "Die Fledermaus". They are fun and easy to follow. Musicals are good too since they are almost always in English!!
