    Pie, anyone?


    I know, I know...I'm leaving myself wide open for off-color innuendo and colorful comments...but seriously...let's talk PIES!

    As some of you know I like to make and decorate cakes, but the only thing I love more than making cakes is baking pies!

    It's getting to be that time of year - the holidays are approaching - and I usually make a few different kinds of pies for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. I always make the pie crusts from scratch, and when I can, the filling is made from scratch, too. My grandmother was the baker in my family, and she taught me how to make the many, many different things I bake today. She also passed down her recipe to me for the most flaky and tender crust imaginable! There is an art to preparing the pie crust as well, to make sure it's not tough, or too dense. She was patient with me in the learning process and let me make my own mistakes until I got it down pat.

    Not only do I enjoy making the pies, but I love eating them, too! My favorite pies are probably Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Pie, but honestly there are few that I don't love. My least favorite is Mincemeat Pie. I think that is the nastiest pie ever created! My mom loves Mincemeat Pie, though, and I am usually forced into making one at Christmas time. I guess it doesn't matter, I don't have to eat it, and at least it makes her happy.

    Mmmm! I'd LOVE a piece...oh wait, did you mean the pie? Never mind then. I don't like pies too much. I can't tell you what my favorite kind of pie is because children see this page...and on that same note, I can't tell you what my least favorite pie is either.

    Hi Lisa,

    I love CREAM pies - especially chocolate or banana! YUMMY! I have never made a pie! Would you ever consider posting a good recipe and giving us an online lesson? I do like warm apple pie with ice cream and pumpkin pie with whipped cream..... I would like to join your challenge but am not good at moving my post to your post site. If I do it will you help me figure out how to get it over here? Thanks!

    Pies...mmmmmmmmmm... my family's recipe for chocolate pecan pie, a plain old fashioned apple pie, and blueberry pie...those are my favorites. All served with a dollop of whipped cream.

    Well pumpkin USE to be THE ONLY pie I'd eat. *and i'm not going to make that off color comment you were talking about, LOL* The as an adult I found Pecan pie.... this was always my fathers fav... then I started loving it... but I'm picky about pecan pie.. have only liked my mothers but now I've found a couple places that compare. Then my beloved Tiger... his fav is APPLE.... and he started making apple pies .... and OMG they are GOOOOOOOD!! I love love love his pie! HAHAHAHAHA Ok..... sorry about that... I just found that hilarious. Oh and the crust...... he's tried to make his own b4.... but we like the pilsbury refriderated ones.. so why should he bother ya know? Cuz like ya said... there is most definately an art to that.

    Banana cream pie is my favorite.  Pecan and Dixie are serious contenders.  Oh, heck, I love most all of them.  Um, mincemeat would also be my all-time least favorite.  Bah!  I am a pretty decent baker, with the exception of...pies.  The pies taste fine, I just have a hard time rolling out the crust evenly and they look like crap, lol.  Cakes and cookies have much better results!

    OMG ... we so think alike ... my next Question of the Day involves two kinds of pie ... :big grin:

    I'm going to say that my favorite is Peach Pie ... I don't eat a lot of pie, but Peach Pie is YummY!!!! :tongue:

    I like chocolate chip pecan pie!!  I used to make it from pecans in my yard before we moved.  (sad moment)
    I am not a fan of cream pies.  (banana, coconut, chocolate)  or grasshopper pie.
    I can't say I've tried mincemeat pie.  I think I don't want to.

    ryc - Em's the older one!  Usually to practical for the frivolity of my youngest.  :)  She should take a few lessons from her baby sister though.  They have things they could each learn from the other!

    Mmmmm, pie! My favorite is chocolate almond pie (made with Hershey almond bars, heavy cream and marshmallows in a graham cracker crust). My positive quality was peace...it was pretty accurate!

    Blueberry pie still warm with vanilla ice cream on the side. MMMMMmmmmmmmmm   my least favorite would have to be shepard's pie. Bleh.

    I love Chocolate Pdg. Pie, Peanut Butter Pie or Coconut Cream...& Raisin is my absolute least favorite~!!! (I actually try not to eat them; however~!!!)
