  • Next Week Will Be Better

I'm keeping it positive. I have to.

No joy in getting a doctor's appointment for Marisa yesterday, so I did the next best thing (the only option left to us at the moment)...we went to the E.R.

This is a brand new facility we went to, an annex of sorts to one of the major hospitals we have in the area, in a very nice suburb not a half a mile from where I grew up.

Over the last year I had seen that they were building this gorgeous place, and I knew it would house some sort of medical facility (like doctors offices and such) but I didn't know until my sister told me yesterday that the building also housed an Emergency Room. This E.R., she was told by a friend, had no waiting time, which is amazing considering you can spend the better part of a day (or night) at the main hospital's ER just to get into an exam room. I thought it was worth a shot to check out this rumor.

When we walked into this place it was like walking into the Ritz Carlton. It was truly palatial:

We got back to an exam room in less than five minutes. Marisa was triaged, and in the span of less than an hour was examined by a very nice, young female doctor. The doctor ordered a test for Mononucleosis after confirming that her infection was not bacterial, and ordered a n injection of a steroid to reduce the inflammation, along with Tylenol 3 with Codeine.

We were to wait the hour and a half that it took to get these test results back. No matter, at least we had a flat panel TV to watch in the exam room:

Marisa was diagnosed with Pharyngitis after the test for Mono came back negative. We were in and out of the ER in less than 4 hours, which is amazing to me. And it was the first ER I've visited that I was actually sorry to leave. Heh. The meds she was given started to kick in before we left, and she finally was getting some relief from the pain.

I felt the earth move this morning!

An earthquake, centered all the way in Illinois, near the Indiana border, was felt here in the Miami Valley. It's not the first tremor I've felt here, but it's been a while...and this one was the biggest I've ever felt in this area. I was the only one up in the house at 5:38 AM, but I don't think anyone believed me until it made the news.

And we had a big aftershock just a little while ago.

(ETA: No damage here, though. We're all okay and safe!)

Have you ever felt an earthquake?

The whole week has flown by. I just don't know how it could go as fast as it did. I haven't gotten half of the things done I've needed to, and I've promised some people some things I haven't been able to deliver on...you know who you are...and I'm sorry. I will get to it. I just couldn't yet.

hey i spent the night in the ER too! hooray for good nice, new ERS with well staffed facilities. I hope she gets better soon.

I wanted to thank you for the AWESOME theme. I love it more than any theme Ive ever had. You have a gift. Xanga should hire you to make all of their themes.

Quick, efficient medical care in a beautiful facility?  Earthquake?  I've always thought you were in Ohio, but I guess you're blogging to us from Japan.  Tell Mr. Roboto, "Domo arigato" from all us over here in the states.

Never been through an earthquake.  Been through a hurricane, and we had a pretty awesome thunderstorm here just last night.  The only severe conditions I've been through have not resulted in any personal losses.  So, I kinda enjoyed them *shrugs*  Earth moving stuff is t3h aw3s0m3 or somesuch.

Fair Seas, PQ!  If Marisa feels 1/2 as good as she looks, she's doing great!

  • CynaraJane

@antisoccermom - Hope everything is okay! Thanks about the theme...and somebody should hire me, dammit! :sswhimper::sswink: Is that you in your profile pic, or a movie star I don't know?:sslove:

  • CynaraJane

@AliasUndercover - LOL, I'll be sure and tell himMoving earth under foot kinda made me queasy, but it was cool, too. :ssalien: Marisa is mad at me for posting pics of her looking so "awful!"

  • skittler335

Your daughter is beautiful! I hope these meds help her and she gets better soon! :)

I have actually never felt an earthquake.

  • beli_grrl

I wish we had an ER like that around here! I'm glad it went well for you-- as well as an ER visit can go. Hope your daughter is back on her feet soon.

I've lived in the Bay Area for 6 years now and really felt 3 earthquakes. The last one was about a 5.2 centered in San Jose and it freaked me out because it lasted longer than usual. They're thrilling. But not in a good way.

  • AcidSam

Yeeay!  Glad she got a real diagnosis and not the allergies!  Now she can get treated and start feeling better.  Good for her.

  • Soultender

Glad your daughter and you were able to receive some first class care and help.  Doubt I'd see many ER's like that under Hill's or Obama's plan.  I once experienced an earthquake in podunk Huron SD of all places.  Hardly realized it at the time since it was back in my drinking days.  I just thought it odd that everybody else in the bar fell down the same time I did.

  • Gizzella_Orangespunk

Wow! That's an ER I wouldn't mind visiting!

My friends and I were talking about earthquakes this morning. The last one I remember was when I was in grade 12, I had just come out of an arts and crafts class where we were spray painting a project. I was standing at my locker and watching my lock swing back and fourth when I grabbed my friend's arm and told her I thought I was high from the paint fumes.  Then a teacher came running by telling us all to get against the walls.

  • teefahknee

that is not MVH is it? Wow...spiffy!

  • stargazerlillikat

wow that is a nice er and it's also nice to hear your daughter is doing better.

i have felt a few earthquakes in my life, the most memorable was the 1989 loma prieta earthquake that rocked nor-cal and part of the bay bridge fell!!!!!  but that was a "big" one and the most recent one i felt was mild.  i was sitting on the couch with my cat and i thought it was her scratching that was making the shake!  glad to hear all is well after your earthquake though!

  • sweetanonymity

Damn Lisa you girls are always sick! Well here's to Marisa getting better. She's a cutie.

I remember when my daughter was younger, she was constantly getting strep and being sick. I hated it. And I hated it that we would have to wait and wait and wait, at the doctors. So, a couple of times, we opted for the emergency room, too. :sswink:

  • MamaInkWench

OMG???? Only 4 hours?!?!?!??! I know a few hospitals that could take lessons from that. I won't get into my 8+ hours at the ER here this winter for the dental abscess.

    Hugs'n'Smooches!

  • Kilkennys_Pub

Was that an earthquake this morning??? I thought it was just me snoring! Lived through a pretty decent sized one in California (it knocked things off the wall) and a few here in Ohio.

The T3 works wonders, not that you hurt any less, you just don't care.

    Have a great weekend!

  • AliasUndercover

@CynaraJane - LOL at the clips!  I forgot how totally gahay Mr Roboto really is.  But then you made up for it with a clip from one of the best albums of all time ever.  Never get tired of Carole!

  • TheGreenPanther

that's like the Taj Mahol of hospitals.....

    love the footsies btw :)

  • Hellion_Rebellion

Wow, that is a beautiful place. Love the architecture!
And I am glad your sweet daughter got some help and relief.

That was so weird, hearing about that earthquake. Happy you and your gang are alright!
    Have a great weekend, sweets.
    *hugs*

  • Alive_in_Vegas

Glad the ER trip went well......................

earthquakes.....................Vegas is in an active zone................first time I felt one I was ready to run, standing in a doorway.......my ex rolled over and said something like ...."Oh, it's just an earthquake. Go back to sleep".......... that did not happen till the next night..............

  • Umnenga

We don't get earthquakes in South Africa that I am aware of.  Nor typhoons. We get a few mini tornados but that is about it

  • Eccentrique

Now I'm waiting for the REST of the story...the BILL for Marisa's 4 hours in the palatial ER.  I'm betting it'll be somewhere around $1,600.  I hope you'll keep us informed.

I too was up, and felt the same earthquake you felt except that I'm quite a bit closer to the epicenter in southern Illinois.  It was fairly scary to feel the building shaking.

  • CynaraJane

@Eccentrique - Fortunately Marisa's dad has fabulous health insurance. Even the prescriptions were very, very cheap...$1.19 for both of them! I may never know what the actual bill was, but I'm sure if she didn't have that insurance it would be astronomical. As for the earthquake... I imagine being so close to the epicenter would have been quite the experience!

  • Born300YearsTooLate

There is no waiting in that ER because Dayton medics don't run down there. The other hospitals; MVH, GSH, GVH, and even KMC, fill up pretty quick with people who have no health insurance and have the flu, a bellyache, a headache, a nosebleed, or, of course, lead poisoning (which in Dayton is bullets in the body).

  • GrumpyBear54

WOW the week I spent in the hospital in January was a joke......poor room, poor nurses.....none cute.......and noisy to boot..........Awesome pics looks like she is already recovering.....

EARTHQUAKE.....I heard about it on the news....nothing that exciting happens on the North Coast.....

Hope your weekend is going very well......:ssgoofywink:

  • TheTheologiansCafe

Your daughter is adorable.  That is the nicest hospital ever.

I just moved from that area and missed the earthquake.

  • deep_deep_dark
