Seriously pissed me off!!!...

I saw this through a persons blog on my SIR.  I must say having been a single-WORKING mother for 10+ years to say it pissed me off would be an understatement!!  I will post what this person had to say, along with my comment to them.

IT'S YOUR MONEY  I just don't get it. Oh, the incessant whining that families earning around $26,000 per year or less won't get the retro-active $400 per child tax refund check this summer!

Let's say I am checking my receipt as I walk out of Wal-Mart and discover that I was charged twice for one $10 item. While standing in line at the customer service desk to correct this overpayment, the person behind me sees that I'm getting a $10 refund. Of course, I'm entitled to the refund, because Wal-Mart took more of my money than they should have. But the clown behind me is only in line to get change for a dollar. Yet he sees me getting a $10 refund, and now he wants one too.

Now if Wal-Mart gives him a $10 refund, when in fact he never gave Wal-Mart so much as a penny anyway, one of a couple of things is going to happen. 1) either Wal-Mart is going to get deeper and deeper in debt until their deficit spending bankrupts them, or 2) they are going to begin to overcharge shoppers like me to cover their losses.

But unlike the federal government, Wal-Mart is not stupid. Both of these solutions are unacceptable to the bottom line. They aren't going to give refunds when they don't overcharge. They aren't going to give refunds when they aren't warranted. But these ideas somehow make sense to Uncle Sam.

If you haven't figured it out by now, the reason families of around $26,000 / year or less will not get, and should not get, a $400 per child rebate on their taxes is because THEY NEVER PAID IN ANY TAXES TO BE REFUNDED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Yes, it might look nice that I'm going to get a check. But it would be a far better thing for me not to have paid anything at all like those that shouldn't be getting a credit refund. Even after I get my check, I will have paid far more than those not getting a check. And you know what my tax money is doing? Funding the Earned Income Tax Credit for these same other families. That's right. Somewhere along the line, someone didn't think it fair that some people, WHO HAD OVER PAID THEIR TAXES, should get a tax refund check, while those WHO PAID IN NOTHING, did not get a check. THEREFORE, the Earned Income Tax Credit was devised to give a refund to people who never even paid.

Simply put, the government robs "citizen A" to give to "citizen B." And now, there is talk that the increased child credit should be extended to even those who PAID IN NOTHING, indeed, those who already got an undeserved check from the government in the form of the Earned Income Tax Credit, a check that confiscates the property of one citizen and gives it to another.

Is it any wonder the government can't get a grip on it's own pocketbook? Politicians buy votes with our tax dollars. Don't be fooled.

My comment to this in gray...

Ok first off being a single-mother that made only (appx)$22,000 a year, for 9 yrs YES they do take taxes out!  They take the same damn percentage out that they do for everyone else...sorry that my paychecks didn't come backed with a degree or a 5 star job...but they took my money just the same!  I worked 50+ hrs a week for that measly 22 grand a year and it wasn't at McDonald's!  I busted my ass for a shitty 10 bucks an hour!  Let's not even get into the fact that the MEN who were doing the same fkn job, EXACTLY THE SAME JOB, made an average of $2.oo more/hour then I did.  EIC you get when you file head of household.  Granted people that make $40+ grand a year pay more...but they make alot more too!  I could see if someone on Welfare was asking for more handouts but from what I get here that's not the case!

If you have never been in a single parent situation and being happy just to have a damn job then DON'T KILL THE MESSENGER!

Not everyone is blessed with the ability to afford a better lifestyle, but that does not give you the right to talk down to the blue-collar workers!

I take it you don't live in a glass house.  You should watch who you throw stones at!

Mind you 22 grand isn't alot of money...but ya know some people are just happy to have a fkn job!!  Do you not think they want to make more money??  Sorry not all can afford to go to college right out of high school.  Some people actually have to go out and work and do physical labor RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL!!  Not everyone knows a friend of a friend that can get them a cozy little job making a substantail salary a week!!

Ya know that corner mechanic that fixes your car??  He prolly makes less the $26 grand a year and bet he get's EIC...tell him this and see how he "fixes" your car the next time!  Ya know that fast food you love to eat or buy??  Well tell this to them...they obviously make less money and let's just see what they "put" in your food!!  How about the men and women that serve the country??  many are young and raising families making very little money.  Tell this to them and see how they protect your ass in the future!!

If it wasn't for us "little" people then How the hell would you get by?!  To say that we don't contribute and are basically welfare recipients...BS!!  I must have been doin somethin wrong cuz I wasn't gettin any help from welfare!!

*shakes head*
Get a clue!

BTW...out of my $22,000 a year (gross pay mind you)...I paid into the federal Govt alone over 5 grand...now add in your SS, state and city tax.  DON'T TELL ME I DIDN'T PAY ANY FKN TAXES!!  You live off 200 bucks a week, raising a child by yourself and tell me you don't deserve shit!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Amen!!!  What a great rant ~ good on you!  I don't even live in the US but I can't believe the stupidity of this economic 'plan' of Dubya's ~ you might appreciate this article here, it's funny if you can get past the whole, "Oh damn, that's so true," aspect..

I was talking to a friend of mine in San Francisco whose $400 is going straight to the Red Cross or some other organisation which is being essentially shafted by the government right now, and read another blog today in which I saw someone else whose tax rebate is bound for charitable works.  I'm so impressed that there are people out there who are backing up their disgust at this White House's actions with actual deeds.

Great blog.

I think Yorel was talking about paying federal income tax, not the usual state, city, local, and sales tax we all have to pay.

It's absolutely amazing the disrespect the working poor get.  I've been there.  One year, our combined income was just over $17,000.  We waited tables, and the business was really bad that year.

being a single mom for 7 years, I totally agree..I got killed with taxes..they took out sooo much..and I got no assistance from the state for anything..so if they want to give me a little extra back in taxes..I'll welcome it..it is deserved..I'm very with you on this!!

That's not exactly what you said at my page. But that's oK. BTW, thanks for stopping. You seem to know alot about me.
 NOT.
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. If a person makes less than $26,000 they pay NO INCOME TAXES.  Some people have too much withheld from their payroll. When they do, they get refunds. When you don't pay ANY income taxes, as people earning less than $26,000, you should not get refunds. You did not overpay.

The new law says I overpaid last year by $400 per child. EIC people, people who paid NO INCOME TAXES, did not overpay. (sigh)  But don't worry. Spineless politicians will take some of what I and others actually paid in, not use it to reduce the budget deficit, and instead write you a check for no other reason than to continue to flame your class envy and buy your vote. Write your congressman. Tell him you can't live or make it without him.

if you paid attention yes it was what I wrote on yours previous...verbadum; however on MY blog I CHOSE to ellaborate which was in the purple text.

People with fat pockets just want their pockets lined more.  Screw the "little" people is what they say.  Well take off your rose colored glasses because the minorities ARE the majority in this country!!  You add up all that us little people do give to the Fed Govt and it will come out to alot more then you do Im sure.

If there are 15 people that make 22 grand a year and pay 5 grand TO THE FEDERAL GOVT. then that my sir comes out to over 100,000 in federal tax money.  Is that less then what they take out of you for a year??  If it is then do some ore math.

BTW INCOME TAX IS what I demonstrated...did you not see the last paragraph??

I hate to jump in, but just because the fed withholds it does not make it income tax - income tax is a certain percentage (that gets higher the more you earn) of your earned and unearned income.  It is separate and distinct from other federal withholdings, such as social security and medicare.

And as far as Morgane's comment, I think that's great.  Although she uses them almost as examples of civil disobience or of flouting the government's purposes, the people she cites as using their refunds for charitable purposes are doing exactly what the government was hoping they'd do - and doing exactly what Bush said they'd do all along - privately giving to charitable causes and thus putting the money back into the economy through them.

sorry but that still does not dispute that the federal money taken out is NOT income tax.  The percentage of what is taken out of mine for example was based soley on earnings hence Income tax.  I am not focusing on state and SS but mainly on federal.  It was all earned money by ME and they took the same percentage based on that EARNED income.

I am not saying here that all peoples deserve the credit but DAMN have a heart for those that struggle and dont get shit handed to them on a silver platter.  We still contribute and no doubt we make up far more of the population then upper class.

So I can understand, you're saying your gross income was 22K and you paid the US government 5K in federal taxes during the same year...and did not receive any kind of refund? They withheld and when it came time to file in April, you got zero of that 5K back? (And there were no student or gov't loans owed?)

I never said I didnt get a refund...Im expressing how it was said that those of us that make less then 26k a year do NOT contribute or pay ANY taxes.  That is the part that pissed me off!!

I made my claims at the end of the year so I could get a refund back...which means throughout the year all available deductions were taken.

The only student loans I have are currently happening as I am just now getting my college education.  At the times I am speaking of, no there were not any school or govt. loans owed.

btw just in case youre wondering...I only recieve one grant...all other loans I have for school are and will be paid back by noone other then ME, coupled with astronomical interests Im sure.

When you receive a refund in full of the amount withdrawn from your paycheck throughout the year, you're not paying income taxes. The gov't is witholding your $, but they will give it back (after they've earned interest off it for the year). The act of having it withheld is not paying taxes.

If you have some withheld, and still pay in April - you're definately paying your income taxes.

If you have some withheld, but receive SOME of it back in April, and they keep the rest - you're paying your income taxes.

If you receive the entire amount withheld in April, you loaned the gov't money...but did not pay any income taxes.

And I think it's great that you're going to school. I would love to have that opportunity myself. Maybe one day I will. Good luck to you in that endeavor.

Actually, student loan interest rates are quite reasonable now.  I just consolidated my student loans - with a mix of private, perkins and federal stafford loans - at an amazingly low 3.5 percent!  Of course, it's stretched out for 30 years but at that rate it's worth it.  If, like me, you'll carry a lot of debt from school, it is worth checking out affordable debt consolidation after you graduate.  Check it out here.

out of the 5,000+ that I paid into federal my average refund would come out to $1,200.oo...actually that would have been my highest refund.  My average refund was about 7-800 bucks.

I appreciate all the feedback Ive gotten here...both good and bad.  Afterall a debate is NOT a debate without 2 sides of an issue.
