In the news...
A woman was reporting her car as stolen, and mentioned that there was a car phone in it. The policeman taking the report called the phone and told the man that answered that he had read the ad in the newspaper and wanted to buy the car. They arranged to meet, and the thief was arrested.
Did the thief's reaction make sense? Would you have sold the car?

No. Unless he put an ad in the paper, I suppose. If the thief didn't put an ad in the paper, then he was REALLY stupid to arrange to meet with the cop. :P
...How did the thief react...?
By selling the car? Is that the reaction you're talking about?
I wouldn't have stolen the car in the first place, but if I had, selling the car would most definitely have been the worst idea possible. If I needed the money, and had no other option but to sell it, I would have at least taken it out of the metro to sell it- somewhere remote, where people aren't likely to look for it, and it would be easy to lie about my identity.
I love dumb criminal stories.
I would think a normal person would have questioned the existence of the ad and had some suspicions.
the world's greatest criminal mind, he ain't.
no, and no.
well if i was a smart thief, id know that a car with a car phone must be a very nice car...
so id keep it
Well obviously it wouldn't have been the thief that put the ad in the paper. He was probably just assuming the owner of the car had an ad. He's still a moron though...
@VaultESL - This changes everything!
Wow. That sounds like story my dad would tell.
look, all im saying is DUMBASS.
The thief was dumb to steal the car in the first place, in my opinion. Next he was dumb to answer the carphone: what did he expect? And finally he was totally dumb to arrange to sell the car and to meet with the prospective buyer, the cop who would arrest him!
I love dumb criminal stories too! It's incredible that someone could be that stupid!
Haha, that is great. No and no.
I guess, people steel things, because they need it, or they want to sell it to make money. In this case, he needed to make money.
I agree. If he didn't place the ad, he is severely lacking something upstairs. However, he could have read the situation as a way to get hot merchandise off of his hands really quickly. He could have taken any offer, really. It would still have been more than he paid for it. Right?
P.S. I like your new layout.
smart...
I don't answer phones that aren't mine first of all. If I stole someone's phone or stole someone's car along with their phone, I am not going to answer it. It's not like anyone is calling for me. If I wanted to sell the car, I'd rather do it myself instead of selling it to some stranger from the phone that belonged to the person I stole the car from. There was some sense to the theif's reaction, but it was definitely not a smart choice.
I would've have even picked up the phone. It amazes me that the first thing that this guy didn't think was, "Hey, I just stole this car and they may be trying to find me."
have you been possessed by Dan?
Oh my God, are you serious? What an idiot! Darwin Award for sure.
smart cops! stupid thief, hehe.
Stoopid Criminals...
I would have thought that it would have becam apparent to this genius that some car phones can be traced due to a kind of GPS in them. This is nto unlike what they put in cell phones now.
haha, if he was not dumb ...he wouldn't have to steal someone's car and getting himself fooled by policeman ! shoulda use his guts to work or something...
why would he have answered the phone? and why would have have thought that the owner would have listed that number in the ad? who spends that much time in their car?!? I do love how stupid people can be though!
