In other news, there's some witty commentary about Jell-O over at the Gallery of Regrettable Food.  They have tons of lovely photos from those horrible little recipe books that I like to read; despite what they say, I do like to pull out my mother's Betty Crocker's Hostess Cookbook and read cookie recipes from 50 years ago. 

It was such a lovely fantasy world in that cookbook.  You see, in 1960 it was possible to make entire meal from canned goods and still pass yourself off as "gourmet" so long as you sprinkled grapes - canned grapes - on the chicken! 

 Nowadays, of course,  Martha's made it so you can't even serve hand-made artisanal goat cheese unless you've strained the curds with cheesecloth you wove yourself on an antique loom that's been in your family for generations.  Why, if you didn't personally handle every step of the production process, including insemination, you may well serve that Chicken Kiev on a bed of Frito's with a can of Budweiser on the side of your plastic dinner plate, you piece of white trash! Just kidding, just kidding!  (I'm sure you're probably not even really white - you're probably high yellow like that Mariah Carey.)
