Greta Van Susteren introduced one of her news stories this way: "It's real, it's terrifying. All the horrible details coming up next." And I think that captures the FOX philosophy fairly well. The message of the network seems to be "It's a scary world out there. You're going to need a gun and some deep-seated prejudice if you're going to make it out alive."

This is right on the money. Great article, thanks for sharing.

Fox is The National Enquirer masquerading as news.  I don't need friends like that in the media.  It never ceases to dumbfound me how many people that I consider both friends and political compadres actually insist on only getting their news from these sensationalist jerks.  Their commercial success is built on dragging news to the lowest common denominator, and because it works, it's having a corrosive influence on other news outlets.

    Thanks Rupert.  Jerk.

MSNBC, Fox, CNN all have their own slant on the news and you are getting it filtered through a ideology. They are paid  agenda driven propoganda machines. The news networks (all of them) decide what is going to be reported and what is not. Lets give a few real examples of King making and filtering. Presidential primaries. Ron Paul got double digit support in many states and wasnt even on the counter returns. Who gets to be in a debate. In january when I first took keen notice to the presidential primaries I saw people whose names I had never heard of who had been running for a year .

@ProvokingThought - I recommended a book yesterday to Jim, and I think you'd appreciate it as well. It's called "Freedom and Responsibility in the American Way of Life" It's a series of speeches given by a man named Carl Becker in 1944. Surprisingly, the content applies just as much-- if not more-- today as it did back then.

You'll probably have to pick it up in a library or used book shop, because it's not in print, but it's worth looking for. He touches on this issue.
