    Catching up...

Since I finished the painting on the repossessed mobile home I have been very inactive…I have been enjoying the break, I suppose my body and mind have been taking a small vacation! I am being called back to duty, projects are piling up and they are calling to me, I see them waving, shouting “finish me!” I believe the projects are vying for my attention. I know that it is not Spring but I feel like I need to do some Spring-cleaning, I suppose that can happen any time of the year.

I was hanging Rusty’s clothes in his closet and he has stuffed so many things in their, Rusty saves everything…that is something that annoys me terribly! If the junk he saves was usable it would not bother me as much, but he saves broken VHS players, clothing he will never wear again, he has two crashed laptop computers, which are useless! This junk has sat in his closet for almost 5-years…and he has junk stuffed up under his bed! I am going to remove everything from Rusty’s closet, which is a large walk-in closet (the largest in our home) and try to place everything so you can actually walk into the closet…that is my goal! Rusty has made me promise that I will not throw away any of his “stuff.”

We have not heard anything from Social Security about Rusty’s application for Disability, truthfully I have not been concerned about it, and I just do not see how me worrying would help anything. We have been without income since May 31.

My oldest daughter Kimberley, her husband Jeff, and three children Dylan, Halen, and Nathan are leaving Monday to fly out to Los Angeles for vacation – I believe they will be out there all that week. We had hoped they would be able to visit our grandson Devin while they were out there, but Devin will be at camp until the 26th. Devin is 14-years-old, and has lived in San Clemente since he was 8-years-old with his father and stepmother. Devin now has a younger brother that is 3-years-old, and a very young brother that is one month old. Devin is doing well, he just passed 7th grade with A’s and one B…he is a happy well adjusted young man and Rusty and I are happy about that, we miss him but knowing he is happy and in a good home sets our hearts at ease.

I colored my hair yesterday, it really needed it, or I needed it! I was feeling washed out and yucky! I just hate it when I feel I look badly, but I have been working a great deal and just did not want to take the time to color my hair but I started noticing that I have gotten lackadaisical about wearing makeup, and even caring about dressing well…I needed to spruce things up!

Summer has been rough, so many people are not showing up for church…I contact all of them to let them know I miss them…how can they just not show up for church for most of the summer??? This happens every summer, and usually around Christmas, people should not get so busy that it keeps them away from church. Church is a very important part of my life; I do take a break occasionally, maybe once or twice a year, but not anything that I would want to do regularly!

Our Home Group has decided to ready and discuss "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren...I am not pleased with that decision but I am going to make the best of it. I absolutly hate Rick Warren's writing style, and some of his theology makes me squirm, we start the study on August 6. Have any of you read this book? I would be interested to hear what your experience in reading was...really!

  • Life has been moving right along, Rusty filed for Disability on June 9…we should hear something from them in a month or so. I have been staying busy, I took a job cleaning a repossessed mobile home, I cleaned it with no air-conditioning, and it only took 7-hours! I am also painting the shutters and trim on the same mobile home, I am waiting for a ladder to reach the eves, I was supposed to have gotten the ladder Saturday morning, but it was never delivered…so I am waiting to finish the job and turn in my time. Since I could not finish the painting Saturday I mowed the yard, and used the weed-eater…it was terribly hot!

Rusty and I are going to the Sluder Family Reunion August 1-3, in Tyler Texas…that should be fun, I have not seen all of them in ages. We missed the family reunion last year, Rusty just did not feel like going…funny, I want to see all of the Sluder clan more than he does! We have not been on a trip in a long time, the drive up to Tyler should be fun, and I will enjoy the drive. It will be the first trip in my Volkswagen Bug, I am having the Timing-belt changed next week, I am ready for the trip…I just have to figure out what to do with my dog! None of them like dogs, they said my dog could stay in the house if I put her in a cage…Mandi would not like that, she does not know she is a dog!

  • Things have been going well, during a time when it would appear to be a bit shaky I feel very secure in the arms of God…isn’t that the way things should be. Many things have been going on, today is Rusty’s “termination of Employment” date, and termination of health insurance…Rusty says we should celebrate! I love that man, and of course his way of celebrating has to involve some type seafood…we took off with my car, found a seafood store, and bought him some Oysters!

Yesterday I made an appointment with the local Social Security office so Rusty can file for Disability, his appointment is Monday June 9th at 10:30am here in Angleton. They want tons of information, title of our Mobile Home, title to my car, Tax statements, bank statement, birth certificates, marriage license, etc…I have to dig all that out! Please be praying that Rusty will be approved quickly! We have enough money to last about 8 months, Rusty has to take about 10 different medications for his illness, Rusty says we have enough money for 10-months but I do not believe he is looking at our monthly living expenses realistically…everything is going up – electricity, gasoline, and food!

Rusty’s birthday is Thursday June 5th (he will be 54-years-old), on Friday June 6th he is riding down to Abita Springs Louisiana with his sister, they will be back on the 8th they are picking up their Mother (she is afraid to fly). Rusty will get to spend time with his sister Toni on the drive, and see his oldest sister and her kids while he is in Louisiana…they all live down there. I am staying home with my dog!

Our Home Group is going well, Rusty and I both enjoy the group meetings, I believe God is going to do wonderful things there - we are studying and discussing Philippians, the discussion has been wonderful! I feel very LAME, last week was Rusty and my turn to bring snacks…thinking about their health I brought a tray of carrots, celery, tomatoes, and broccoli (with dip!), and a tray of cheese and crackers. I really believe they would have preferred something chocolate, cookies or the like. Hardly any of the vegetables was eaten, Rusty and I have been nibbling at them, but I finally threw them over the fence for the horses this evening…the celery was getting limp! The horses will be very happy tonight, I give them treats quite often at night, they stand out there and wait to see if I am bringing them something.

Our Home Group started this evening

Our Home Group started this evening (Wednesday), the huge crowd that was expected did not happen, but I believe that is kind-of normal. We have six leaders assigned to our Home Group and seven people had signed up to attend our group, everyone was concerned that we might need to close our group and send people to other groups…what is it they say about worrying, it is wasted time that you could be enjoying yourself! We did have a very enjoyable evening, we had a barbecue, and the company was great! We ate, and hung out in Mike’s backyard, and then we moved inside and had a time of worship, and prayer. Next week we are going to start a study in the book of Philippians…I will enjoy that! I look forward to next week, and it will be wonderful getting to know everyone.
