  • Green Thumb

There are many things in my life that I find exasperating, but one of these at the top of the list is my lack of a green 'thumb'.  I love plants and I love having my yard look so great, but what hard luck I have when it comes to plants!  I cannot even tell you how much money I have spent and invested into plants, trees, etcetra only to have them die...

I grew up living on a piece of property where we literally grew every thing we ate.  We did not have a cow however, but we did purchase fresh milk from the neighbor just down the road every three days.  We made our own butter, (I thought buying margerine in the box was the next best thing since sliced bread), raised our own poultry, bought locker beef in bulk, and grew the best fruits, vegetables ever.  That in by no means qualified me to be able to grow my own things after I left home I guess.  The first thing I really noticed going awry  was one of those simple goof proof "spider plants" so popular in the 70's.  One of my best friends bought it for me as my graduation gift and potted it into a fancy multi-level pot so all the baby plants would have lots of spaces to pop out and grow.  It was labeled-- "FRIENDSHIP PLANT"   it's message was simple and clear...'water me, love me, never forget me...'  ahhh shucks, how sweet, how simple that was.  WRONG....went of to college, it was a matter of 2 months and that friendship plant was deader than a door knob!  Unfortunately, the beloved friend that gave it do me came down with stomach cancer and also dies within about 9 months or so....I was sad I no longer had that plant to remember him by....

Since then, I have tried so many times to grow successfully things that I dreamed of owning and have adorn my table, plant stands, or yard...the Azalea tree is my latest acquisition next in line to the guiltine.  I have the perfect spot for it, nevermind that it was also the perfect spot for the rose bush that died, the dahlia plants that died and again, the fern that just never made it thru....sigh....if it's one thing I am not, and thats a quitter....

Toodles...I'm out the door to don my shovel and gloves and try once more to redeem my green thumb curse!

Hey Dea, wow, that's funny plant!  Literally for green thumb like yourself.  I wish you the best of luck performing your green thumb magic to your yard.  Post us some pictures if you can.  I look forward to seeing your beautiful work!
