I have a new commission! My brother's class in helicopter training has commissioned me to draw up a couple of designs for their class patch. This is the patch that goes on the shoulder of their flight jackets and distinguishes them from other classes. I thought you might be interested in seeing these designs. This UFO theme is the most boring one, in my opinion. But I'm just the artist I do what I'm told.
And speaking of doing what I'm told . . . this is definitely not a design I would come up with! Tom told me this one and my reaction was
AE: "Do I have to?" Tom: "It's what the guys want, Nannie. Pweeeeeeeeease?" Puns. Lowest form of wit. Definitely a guy thing. This one is my personal favorite, though! Tom told me, "A beefy, mowhawk-wearing frog with a minigun!"
I envisioned a minigun as, well, you know, a small gun. Then I got a reference picture. Miniguns aren't very mini. We also struggled to come up with a tag line for this one. AE: "I know! How about Mean, Green, Fighting Machine!" Tom: "Hey . . . that's kinda cool!" AE: "This is why you have a poet for a sister." But, alas, my poetic skills went unappreciated once again when the class polled for the "What you see is what you get" line instead. Sigh. Anyhow, this was rather a new direction for my illustration skills! Thought you might be amused. |
