I'm missing Hannah. It's always somewhat stressful having company, the disruption to the daily routine. But the company of dear friends is worth any extra stress. And Hannah is one of those people with whom it is very easy to feel like she naturally fits and belongs, so there really isn't need for extra stress. And I miss her already, though I'm excited about her summer adventures coming up. While she was here, I introduced her and Charity to Indiana Jones. Neither of them had experienced the joys of that particular action hero before, so now they have been educated. And I can't help but think that Mr. Jones is perhaps more exciting when watched with the gang of brothers, but still . . . I did my duty! Thought I'd post a few more pictures. Here is my watercolor commission, which I should be working on even now, and will be working on in the next five minutes: It's making some progress, but I really need to sit down and focus on it! Yay architecture.
And here is the work of two of my students from my adult Drawing People class. Laura posed for me, sweetheart that she is.
And my students worked very hard and did well, considering that drawing people from life is about the hardest task you can tackle in drawing!
Our next class is going to be a plein air class, which will also be difficult, but exciting. I'll take them to various locations, like downtown Raleigh or various parks, and they'll work on landscapes and cityscapes from life. But I should probably go do some practice for that myself before the class begins! I haven't done any plein air work in about a year! And here's my oil painting, developing: Yes, I have a messy studio. And this is but a small glimpse of my messy studio! Sigh . . . .
Do notice my charming David Thornton Fan Club t-shirt. I am wearing it now too. I feel like I live in that shirt and my painting pants.
This is as far as it's come. I started some more direct painting on the dress and background, but still have some glazing to do in the skin tones and possibly the hair. Still, I like the quick results of oils as opposed to acrylics. I really like being able to manipulate the medium on the surface.
I went out yesterday to the restaurant where I will be painting a mural this June and took some pictures and measurements. I'm a little intimidated, I won't lie! I'm going to have to paint on a brick wall, which will be . . . interesting. But the gentleman who is hiring me is also talking about having me do another mural at one of his other restaurants, so that's a good deal! I just hope he'll still be this excited when I've finished the concept sketches and quoted him a price . . . . Anyway, I need to get to work. I think I'm going to download Pastor Sasser's sermon from this last Sunday to listen to while I paint. I was so out of it this last Sunday morning after getting next to no sleep the night before (blasted cats) that I don't remember a word of what he preached. Not a good thing . . . . |
