Alternative Breaks - Day 6, 7, 8

Ha, didn't update Xanga for a few days, cos these few days i am quite tired and lazy to type entry, u know after a whole week of fun stuff and work, it's really exhausting. And friends say that my Xanga is too long, so better shorten it by writing it once a few days.

These few days are fun, though not as fun as the days before, i would say people are somehow getting tired, so we didn't do anything really exciting and energy-exhausting. On sunday we drove 2 hrs to get to a beach , hoped to get some sunbathing. But when we got there, IT RAINED! What a perfect coincidence! So we drove back, had dinner and went back. We watched a DVD brought by Rachel, it's called "Freaky Friday". Haha, pretty good, it's hilarious and touching at the same time, a good one to make you relax on sunday night.

Monday we went to Charleston, the state capital of West Virginia for dinner. To make it fun, we dressed up for the dinner. Haha, every girl did make up and dressed up like going to ball. Ironically, the Indian guy forgot to bring suit, so I was the only guy wore suit! Looks cool right, one guy accompanyed by 10 hot girls! We went for Mexican food, Er....seriously i dun like Mexican food much, mainly cos those burritos and tacos have monotaste, i mean no matter what kind of tacos u try, they taste the same, it's so boring man!

Since it's the last night, we didn't go to bed early, even though we needed to get up and work in the last day. We bought beers, drank, chatted and danced until 3 something. Those girls are really cute, they danced crazily, but it's really funny, i have taped some of their dancing and gonna send u guys later.

Now i am in the computer room, just finished all the packing and waiting to leave. Time flies, 10 days of trip is going to end....

                                                   Alternative Breaks - Day 5

Today is Saturday, we didn't need to work. That's y I slept till 11:30. Ha very Jang, especially when you have been working for the whole week and drank last night, a long deep sleep really charge urself up.

I didn't do anything much in the morning. And in the afternoon the community is holding a festival called "Solidary something party". Anyway, it's an annual party and there were bands and dancing things like that. We had a good time there.

After that, we went swimming again. Not to the same place, but this time we followed the teenagers in this community to the place where they often hang out. We first needed to cross a bridge on the river. The bridge has both railroad and pavement, but it's made of wood and steel, and it's about 100 ft high. When you look down the bridge, you can see clearly the water underneath flowing thru the river and beating the rocks nearby, SO SCARY!

So we get to the place, it's kind of like a beach, and with many big trees nearby, on one of the tree there's a long rope. When i was wondering what's that for, one of the teenagers shocked me totally with his action. Then he told me to do the same thing: I first climbed up the tree, held the rope, then jumped off the tree with the rope, the rope swang and when ur whole body got to the river, let urself go and dive into the river. So it's like what Tarzan is doing everyday. It was REAL FUN. and i saw one guy made a turn before he got into the water, Amazing ! Then I tried to learn from him, but when i was about to make a flip, i was so near the water already. So the whole body splashed on the water horizontally, SO PAINFUL! the whole back got red and sore after that!

                                          Alternative Breaks - Day 4

It was an extraodrinary day. I say it cos i can't use one weblog to decribewhat happened today - the topics just dun match, i have to divide the day into 3 weblogs, according to my emotions.

Today work was still proceeding, and we were glad that the person in charge (Ronald) did appreciate our help. He said that we are the most productive group ever, before volunteers just messed things up and gave them more after works to do.

For lunch we went to a children playground. It was beautiful (though not as beautiful as the New River Gorge) and it was quiet and peace. We had a comfortable lunch and it's kind of refreshing.

Finally finished work at 3:00, then we came back for dinner and was about to leave the community for camping. At that time i was calm and didn't feel anything irritated.

"After thoroughly reviewing your application, the Selection Committee has been unable to approve your request for admission to the University of Pennsylvania for the transfer class entering in September 2004."

Just checked it out before i went camping.

SO BAD, got rejected again! I mean when i was rejected by Chicago, I have already known that the chance of getting into U Penn is neither high anyway. but u know, one day u haven't got the decision, you still think that there's miracle. And now miracle trashed.

Nothing to say except extremely disappointed......

Perhaps i have thought too high of myself, that a 4.0 GPA can get me anywhere i want. Wake up dude! there are tonnes of brillant guys in the world, YOU ARE NOTHING!

Yea, i admit that there's really a gap, a big gap between me and those fucking brillant guys. you know they dun need going to school and can still can an A with just one night of study. I am the opposite, "no pain no gain" is the only way i can get good result.

So, I am now going to Michigan, with Kin Shan being my schoolmate again.

But anyway, I really want to thank all the people who have helped me and supported me before. You guys are really helpful and awesome, i am glad that i have you all to be my friends:

UW Madison: Ray, Katy, Raymond, Emily, Tiffany, Angela, Jacqueline, Felix, Siu Kam, Econ, paychology professor, English TA, Dean of L and S, and all  other professors who have helped me with my application

U Chicago: Nelly, Amy, Fiona

LPCUWC: Kin Shan, Thomas, Tui Lun, Loretta, Zena, Kevin, Vicky, Andrew, Noel, Manho

My english tutor: Julian

My family.

AND YOU. You know how important your advice and support were during my applications. Whenever i was diappointed, depressed or nervous, you are always on my side. You never get upset when i pissed at you. I love you.

P.S. i am sorry if i miss anyone who has helped me before, i would say really thank you for you guys.

So we are leaving for camping.

We left at about 7:00pm. We are supposed to get there in half an hour, but then we just got lost and made many wrong turns. So after about an hour, we finally got there. I belonged to the first 2 cars who got there, and there's another car coming later. But then when we got there, none of our cell phones were in service and so we couldn't contact the late third car. So we decided to leave. Just right this moment, the third car came! So excited! we drove back to camp site and were about to start making the tents. Then we suddenly found out that we didn't have tools for making fire. No fire, no fun to go camping at all. So in the end we decided to leave.

haha, but it's not bad to go back and held a drinking party. We bought some beers, went back and sat on a long bench outside the community. It was so fun, everyone enjoyed it so much. And we talked everything, everything. And it's another time to see how open American girls are - they talked about their first sex experiences. I was shocked that everyone has had sex before, even those really really quiet and good girls (they never smoke and drink just a little). So everyone talked about when it was, why went for that and what actually happened. When they have all finished, they turned to me:

"So Nelson, i dun want to make u feel uncomfortable, but do u have any story, or r u still a virgin"

"I am still a virgin, i have no story to tell you guys (i am the only virgin in the group), but i do have a girlfriend, and we have been together for 2 years"

"So like y dun you have sex then, is it that you have some problems?"

What da fuck.

"Simply because we are not married yet."

"So do you still in love with her?"

"Yep"

"Do you still love her?"

"Of cos, very much"

"so y dun go and have sex then?"

"Most Chinese won't have sex before they get married, we are very conservative"

"Nelson, I respest you so much at this time!"

Cutltural shock comes again.
