 Andrew news
Tuesday I went to visit the counselor who observed Andrew in class. She said (among other things) "there are so many issues I don't know where to start." She asked all about our family history, if there's any mental illness, if there's been abuse, drug use, exposure to "adult things." (Porn, people having sex, big fights, people being falling-down drunk.) She said more than once, "This behavior is NOT normal." She wonders about obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, brain injury...

The sad thing is that when he's being good he's SO sweet and loving and lovable. But when he's being ... a pain ... he makes -me- want to beat him silly.

Worms
Do not read this paragraph if you're squeamish. I mean it.
Sunday night, Nate got up around 10 (bedtime's 8) to go to the bathroom. I finally decided he'd been in there long enough and went to check. He was standing in front of the toilet crying. He hadn't made it quite in time and had managed to get it on the front of the toilet, on his underwear, on his legs, and on the floor. (#2) I popped him into the tub to rinse him off, and he kept crying. I told him to calm down, he wasn't in trouble, and I understood that it's harder to make it in time if you're asleep. He kept crying like he thought I was going to ground him until age 18. -Finally- he said, "it itches." His butt itched. So I put some powder on it. Nope. I put some hydrocortisone on it. No, still not helping. I looked at the turd on the floor and thought, "Now that doesn't look right." "OK, Nate, how bout a little bath?" He tried it and it helped for a while. I started to clean up the mess, and it looked like it was filled with little fat threads. Ew. Worms. My kid has worms. So I put the thing in a baggie to take to the doctor the next day and started digging in the drawer for what might help the itching until I could get him to the doc. I'm sorry, I'm NOT taking my kid to the ER for worms. I even called the ER to make sure what I wanted to put on him was safe for a 6-year-old. He was up past midnight, wiggling and squirming and trying SO hard not to scratch his 'itchy butt.' So, first thing monday I took him to the doctor who did NOT want to see my little baggie, but prescribed mebendazole to take now and again in 3 weeks. We went and got the scrip and I thought we were done. Oh no. I went in there on Wednesday night. They were both asleep. I took my flashlight and I checked BOTH their butts. They BOTH have 'em. What Nate took was supposed to kill all the live ones, and the dose in 3 weeks was to kill the next generation. (You know, they're eggs now but they'll hatch by then.) Soooo. I've decided that the drugs didn't work. That I don't want to have an office visit for everyone (how much will THAT cost me?) and I don't want to pump poisons into their little bodies if I'm not confident they'll work, but I DO want us all treated, to be sure. So now I've decided to try an herbal cure. Basically we will purposely give ourselves ... the shits. and I will take a strong course that may be quite uncomfortable, but the boys will take something a little milder. It'll be mixed with something to encourage the right stuff to grow in the colon so there's less room for the wrong stuff. I'm going to just scour myself out, though. And THEN I'll do something to encourage the "good bacteria."

On a lighter note
On Wednesday, we planned to celebrate our 500th day of being married. Only problem? All the grandmas are out of town so I couldn't take the boys to church and leave them with grandmas. So we didn't. *shrug* Maybe we'll celebrate 503 days this weekend?

I wish you all much luck with the "critters."  Ick.

I think it is very sweet that you celebrate days of marriage.  We celebrate months.  222 is coming up!

I've heard they come out at night and can be transferred to another person that way - ew-ick! My husband told me once he got them as a kid, not that this would help you at all!
