24 Fans Beware
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is hinting at a possible crackdown on television violence. A new FCC report gives a few possible methods of achieving this goal. The first would be to restrict shows with "excessive violence" (not yet defined) to time slots when children would not be watching. This is already done for profanity and sexual content. The other suggestion would be allowing viewers to pick the channels that they want to suscribe to. In either event, the FCC is going to have an uphill battle, not only defining excessive violence and eliminating potential grey areas, but television executives, publicisits and First Amendment advocates are likely to oppose new regulations on censorship grounds.Posted by D. Author's note: It's too bad there's no hope of getting American Idol off the air, I mean, watching some of those tone deaf singers has got to be worse that watching Jack Bauer act out killing some thug, right? :)
