Zeno, the Robot Boy
Zeno is not a real boy; he's more like your 21st century version of Pinocchio.
Created by David Hanson of Hanson Robotics, Zeno is a very human-like robot boy named after Hanson's 18-month-old son. Zeno, the robot, weighs 6 pounds and stands 17 inches tall and is the result of five years of work by Hanson and several other engineers, designers, and programmers at Hanson Robotics. While Zeno, the robot, can't speak or walk yet, he has blinking eyes that can track people and a face that captivates with a range of expressions. And unlike most robotic toys, Hanson plans for Zeno to become "an interactive learning companion, a synthetic pal who can engage in conversation and convey human emotion through a face made of a skin-like, patented material Hanson calls frubber." Click here for more about Zeno and Hanson's plans for the future.
