GOP Would Welcome Bloomberg Bid
A few months ago, the rumors of a NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg (D then R then I) bid made the GOP and conservatives rather edgy. Now, it appears, they would welcome it. Sources close to Bloomberg say that the billionaire is about 50/50 for entering the 2008 race. After closer analysis, GOP strategists now believe that a Bloomberg candidacy would syphon more votes from the moderate to liberal bloc than the moderate to conservative bloc. Accoring to the article, many voters would see Bloomberg as closer to the Democratic party than the GOP.If this is true, this could be bad news for Hillary Clinton. What the article does not speculate, however, is if Bloomberg would be comfortable playing the spoiler role that would put political rival, Rudy Giuliani, if he wins the GOP nomination, in the White House.
These are interesting times.
