  • Brownback to Endorse McCain

SamBrownback Kansas Senator and former presidential candidate Sam Brownback (R) will endorse Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Wednesday.  McCain, whose campaign nearly imploded this year due to overspending, has quietly been gaining traction in recent weeks.  Three recent national polls showed McCain in second place for the GOP nomination behind Rudy Guliani (R-NY).  The biggest loser in this endorsement is, perhaps, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R).  Brownback and Huckabee, both social conservatives, had a falling out in the late symmer over what was perceived as an anti-Catholic sentiment from Huckabee supporters.  Brownback is a Catholic, while Huckabee is an ordained Baptist minister.
