  Push-polling starts aimed at Mitt Romney; NH launches probe (Synopsis: Mitt Romney was the victim of anti-Mormon push-polling over the weekend in New Hampshire.  The Attorney General of the state is investigating).

  Hastert to resign before year's end (Synopsis: Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) will retire before the end of the year.  The special election to fill his seat, however, will not happen until after the state's February primary.  Republicans feared that a large turnout for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama would skew the results in favor of a Democrat).
