  • Kyl, Alexander Secure Senate GOP Spots

JonKyl As expected, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) was unanimously elected to the Senate GOP's number two position, Minority Whip.  Kyl is filling the role of Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS), who is retiring before the end of the year.  The election of Kyl left a vacancy in the number three position, Republican Conference Chair.  Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) easily thwartted a challenge by Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), 31-16.  Alexander will now be in charge of promoting the party's message.
