| | Morning quiet time. Readings: Psalm 105, Because I'm Alcoholic Prayers: Lord's Prayer, Third Step Prayer Meditation: Psalm 23
"On awakening let us think about the twenty-four hours ahead. We consider our plans for the day. Before we begin, we ask God to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from self-pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives. Under these conditions we can employ our mental faculties with assurance, for after all God gave us brains to use. Our thought-life will be placed on a much higher plane when our thinking is cleared of wrong motives." Alcoholics Anonymous, Into Action, Page 87, second paragraph.
Some days it takes me a little longer to get started. I wake up with the emotional hang-over from yesterday or I wake up in a bad mood. Lately I haven't been sleeping well, vivid anxious dreams disrupting my serenity. On those days it pays to read the instructions again. Slowly my thinking comes around to what seems like a mature sober level of operation and I feel confident to live this day to the best of my ability. Three cups of coffee and a caffeine buzz helps too. |
