Taking the Low Road: Dirty Politics

This past week McCain and Palin often used rhetoric designed to create fear and mistrust of Barack Obama....with supporters at rallies shouting "Kill him,"  "Terrorist" and "Bomb Obama". It's unfortunate neither McCain or Palin denounced the hateful outbursts right away but went on making further incendiary remarks and raising doubts about Obama's loyalty and patriotism.  Although we hate to admit it, many people still harbor prejudice and cannot bring themselves to trust anyone who is different. Do they believe our skin or hair or eye colors or parents are things we choose ourselves? Nobody in this country should have to explain their religious affiliation or apologize for their skin color. Hopefully, we will someday outgrow the stupidity which leads to such mistrust of anyone different from ourselves.

Friday, at a rally in  Minnesota, McCain was forced
to answer some uninformed supporters' questions and correct their misperceptions about Obama -- publicly declaring Senator Obama should not be feared if elected president, that he's a decent person, a family man and a U.S. citizen,  not an Arab or terrorist. However, McCain is still stating his approval at the end of each misleading negative campaign ad which continue to suggest just the opposite.

McCain is always saying, "My friends, I know how to ......." [win the war, turn the economy around, improve health care, etc.,etc.] but he never really tells us how he plans to solve these problems without raising taxes or reveals why he's been keeping all this knowledge to himself. Is that patriotic?
If John McCain and Sarah Palin can't talk more about the issues and the problems we face and do less fear mongering, they don't deserve people's votes this election day!

Palin's VP Debate Flow Chart

The same friend who sent me Obama earrings last July, sent me this after the recent veep debate.

Palin Flow Chart

It really does sort of explain how she managed to get through it smiling almost constantly and without saying anything of substance or answering the questions. If I find the author of this chart, I'll post it. I sure think whoever thought this up is doggone clever! You betcha!

p.s. Decided to check out the website on the chart and edit my post. This is the work of Aden Nak. He has an interesting website.

A Debate? I Think Not!

Sarah "The Baracuda" did better than most people expected.  Palin flashed her lovely smile and playfully (and often) winked  while tossing out her carefully memorized ("canned" said pundits) talking points which she often punctuated with down home folksy "darn right", "doggone it" and "I betcha" phrases. But where were the answers to PBS moderator Gwen Ifel's questions? I didn't hear any. And she wasn't pressed to answer any when she dodged and changed subjects.

We don't need a perky cute vice president.  It's scary to think she probably is the future of the Republican Party!!!

Today's economic news is sobering to say the least. The latest figures are out on unemployment .... very discouraging! So far this year around 760,000 people have lost their jobs.  No wonder my grandson can't find a job.

As for me? I had my physical Monday with all the blood work and a mamogram this a.m. I don't know about the mamogram but all the other tests were ok. After that, I went out for the monthly lunch with fellow AAUW members. We call it "Meet 'n Eat" and later helped fold church bulletins and then went home after getting a broasted chicken. I had dinner and watched the evening news....twice...and had an hour plus phone visit with middle daughter. Wow! The excitement of it all!!! (Yes, I am being sarcastic.) But the phone call was fun and even exciting in a vicarious way. Daughter has been asked by the Veterans Administration's Director of Audiology to chair the National Audiology Systems Redesign Committee of which she presently is one of five members. Quite an honor! She'll probably agree to this but will face some professional jealousy from some co-workers. My three daughters are all good workers and all have good work ethics and go that extra mile....taking pride in their professions. I'm really proud of them and their accomplishments and talents.

What is the best way to approach an awkward and possibly embarrassing question?

I think it is best to simply reply, "Just why do you want to know?" If a reason is given, you could laugh and say, "That is classified  top secret information. How desperate are you to know? Water boarding might possibly work....or not. "  And then change the subject by asking them a question about themselves or current events or where they got that beautiful blouse or necklace or hairstyle, etc.

What three things do you miss from your younger years?

First, I miss my mother and father being around to comfort me when I feel sick or sad. Second, I miss having a waistline 10 inches smaller than my bust. Third, I miss being called "mama" by my baby girls. These three are not necessarily in the order in which they are missed, however. I could add many more, since at age 76 I have a lot more "younger years" than many who answered this question!
