AFTER THE WEEKEND

Not much anyone else will enjoy reading about this weekend.  I got the groceries in as planned, on Thursday, Sue was here to help get the house ready, and I went to a Bon Voyage dinner at 6 P.M. that night for my cousins Elaine and Russ, who head for warmer winter weather every year at this time.  This year they’re going to Arizona.  They said they have an extra bed in their 5th wheel, and invited me down for a visit.  I JUST MIGHT!!   I’ve always been a bit uneasy about flying, but I may try to ignore that feeling this winter and go.  I’m about as knowledgeable about flying, as I am, in knowing my way around this computer!!!   ZILCH!!  I also have a niece who lives near the park, where they’ll be staying, and Kristie lives 30 minutes from the airport.   She’s BEGGED me to come for several years.

I had planned for Ron and Laura with their 4 girls for the weekend.  Ron and Laura came alone.  I had purchased a 5 lb. Beef roast, probably peeled close to 5 pounds of potatoes and had them in the refrigerator, ready to cook,  and also had 2 pounds of hamburger thawed.   It turned out, we all went to the Olive Garden after the funeral…..so you can just GUESS how much food I had left here at home!   I need to use the hamburger today, some how.  I invited SouthForkCheerMom and Jeff down to help eat some of the roast, last night, then sliced the remainder, mixed it in the gravy, made individual servings of it in plastic bags and froze it for quick meals as time goes on.  I did the mashed potatoes that way too.

I forgot to mention that Laura had had knee surgery Friday morning, then, as soon as she was awake enough to leave the hospital, they started for the 6+ hour trip to come south.  Gutsy Lady!!!  They got here after midnight on Friday night and she looked HORRIBLE when she came into the house on crutches.  She said she FELT horrible too!!!   No visiting that night.   I was already dressed for bed when they got here, of course.  Ron helped her get straight into bed, with pillows under her leg, gave her a pain pill and we too went on to bed.

Yesterday morning, we skipped going to church.  (Church is a normal Sunday morning thing with all three of us) They had planned to leave here around noon to head back home to Wisconsin.  We had a late breakfast with bacon and eggs, lots of coffee, and a nice visit.  I hated to see them leave so soon.  I enjoy having them around.

Need to bring this entry to a close.  My friend Sandy is in the area from Missouri, and heading back today.  She just called to tell me, she’ll be stopping by for a short visit on her way home.  Also need to go to the fertilizer/chemical plant and get some spray, to spray on these confounded, @)#*$%&(!@, determined to grow, dandelions before the frost gets them, after which they would just spring back up come a little warming, next spring.  Dale is putting the sprayer on the back of the golf cart as I type, so I can do it when the wind settles down a bit.

See ya around

ryc:  I always wonder what the church bus driver thought of us singing "A Hundred Bottles of Beer on the Wall" during the 2 hour drive to 6 Flags. :-p

My daughter purchases large family size packages of hamburger meat.  She crumble fries it then freezes it in plastic bags.. When she has a recipe that calls for ground hamburger she just pulls out what she needs and does not have to spend the time precookin it.

Come on down.. On your way to AZ you can come through Texas and see me then go on to NM to see farmerswife..

You could make a meatloaf, and then cut it up and freeze it too.  Or just divide the burger and freeze it.

This is the best time to zap those dandelions!

OK all this talk about food has me starving! Not literally as my father says I can live off my body fat for a year or so........  Send me some food!!

I think you should travel through the winter, my parents have been doing it for a couple years now and just love it.  In fact they have land in Arizona.  I think you'll never want to spend another winter in the north.

p.s if you need my address of where to send the food just let me know *wink*  I miss good old fashioned cooking!

Note to SuzieQ:  I do freeze meat loaf that way too.  It's so hard to cook for "just me" that I make a large one, then freeze the left-over in individual portions and freeze it for quick meals.

And for all of you, who are  telling me you have a place for me to go if I go west:     I doubt if I can get the pilot of the plane to land in all those places.    SOOOOOO      Maybe I should just get into the car and head out for wherever the emblem on the front of the hood takes me.   HEAVEN HELP ME IF I FIND MYSELF ON THE ROAD THAT GOES OVER THE HOOVER DAM!!!!   YOU'D HAVE TO BURY ME!!!!         I do have the right dam........right?

Seriously, That's what Don and I used to do.  No particular destination...just start out after harvest and go for a week or two.
