| | My guests have now returned to Georgia.
I’ve washed up all the towels, have them folded and on the shelves, have washed and dried the sheets and remade the guest bed and I’m all ready for the next guests, whoever they may be. I just pray the next ones won’t have to face such sadness while they’re here.
They left their hometown at 11:30 A.M., E.S.T, Thursday, in their own plane and started this way. They had such a terrible head winds, that a trip which might normally, take 5 ½ to 6 hours turned into much more. They’d also had to make some unplanned landings to refuel, because of the terrible wind. They finally arrived here at 9:30 that night C.S.T. They'd called us each time they landed to re-fuel, so we were alerted that they were going to be later getting in.
Two other cousins and I had been waiting at our small local airport, since, a little after 6 P.M. A small plane landed and we WAVED REAL BIG TO WELCOME THEM!!! Wasn’t their plane! That guy taxied on down the runway, then came half way back and put his plane in the hanger. Bet that guy thought, “Boy, what a welcoming party!” Well heck, we didn’t know what their plane looked like and it was dark. (however, we were standing in a well lighted area) We waited quite a while longer and here comes another plane in. We WAVED REAL BIG TO WELCOME THEM!!! That one taxied about half way down the runway and lifted off again. We decided they must not have gotten slowed down enough to stop at the end of the runway, so they were coming back around to try again. We watched…….. and waited…….. but it never turned to come back. We waited longer. Finally, here comes another plane in. We WAVED REAL BIG TO WELCOME THEM!!! That one WAS theirs. THANK GOODNESS. We three were about frozen!!
When we told them how we’d waved and welcomed the other two planes, they laughed. They said they had heard them on their radio and knew what they were doing and had commented to each other that they would bet we thought it was them landing. We did.
Friday morning, while they were eating breakfast, they discussed going up for a short ride, after going to the funeral home to finish up plans for her father’s funeral. After they left here, they called back to me, and told me to meet them at the airport at 10. Those of you who have been reading my site for a while, know what a chicken I am about flying. But I DID IT!!! The flight was AWSOME, and the view from up there was breath taking. We flew over my place, our farms, my kid’s houses, the house where my cousin’s grandmother lived and etc. Took LOTS of pictures.
Visitation was that night, and the funeral was Saturday, after which, we had a big pot- luck dinner at the community building. Sunday, after seeing them off, since it was then too late to get to church, I came home and tidied up a bit and took a big nap. So far, the coming week looks pretty normal. I may try to mow today and chop up some of these leaves in the yard. They’re outta control.
Take care, Granny |
