I KNOW IT’S THE WRONG TIME OF YEAR, BUT……………

Any of you in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Arkansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma, know of anybody or anything, I should  stop and see on my trip?  I’m going the southern route, in order to stay out of mountains and or snow.  Coming home, I may wander around a bit.

Keep in mind that I’m a 73 year old lady and don’t get me into anything I have to “live down” when I return home.  Kirstie and SouthForkCheerMom would beat-feet to the preachers house,  and delight in letting  him know,  in record time,  and I’d be finding another poster on the church door.  (I was going to refer you to one of my earliest posts, Sept. 16, 2005, but can’t get it open.)

I’ve decided that I’m going to activate the best package of ONSTAR, and just follow that little emblem on the front of my car, …… where it leads, that’s where I’m going. If I get lost or have trouble, and don’t know where I am, ONSTAR will know and send help or tell me where to go.  oops

No definite plans, except the ones around Phoenix. I think I’ll be leaving mid to late March, and get home early to mid April.   Gonna take my time, don’t really care how long it takes.  I don’t have to get back any certain time.  My plans are just to get out of here for a while!!!   (Gotta get it done before time for SouthForkCheerMom to ship me off to that “nursing home in Alaska”, and at my age, that gets closer every day.  ::giggle::)

The only thing I have to get home for is the Pond Party on Memorial Day Weekend.  Gotta get the grass mowed and the place spruced up for the campers.

Y’all take care now,   Granny

There are many many things to see in those places.  We took Rt 10 on our way to CA.  If you don't want mts, you have to head East., not West...  You go higher and higher as you head West.  Be sure to stop by the New Mexico Welcome Station on Interstate 10.  They give the best "goodies" .  New Mexico is the only state that we have been in that has their own state "cookie"  It is such a beautiful place!  If you go Interstate 40, you will get some pretty hefty winds through AZ.   We took Interstate 40 when we went to the Grand Canyon on our 45th wedding Anniversary.

I dont know what part of Texas your going thru. I live in North Texas-close to the red River--not much to see around here-but when you get in Texas--stop at the tourist bureau and ask them whats close around--they can tell you everything to see in the area. Im not sure what kind of things you like to see or do so I dont know what to sugesst. Stay out of the roadside parks--there not safe--the tourist bureaus all have clean bathrooms and rest stop. Take care of yourself and keep your eyes open !!

Well, in St. Louis, there's the Gateway Arch, if you haven't seen it, it's pretty awesome.  There's a great museum underneath -- the story of the Lewis & Clark Expedition.  You can also take a tram ride to the top.  BUT if you're claustrophobic, don't go -- the trams are small and there's only a small window to see out -- sort of like a space capsule.  The Ozarks near Branson are pretty, but prettier in spring or fall.  Hope you have a great trip!

Hi back again.  I just wanted to answer your question.  Yes, I was raised on a dairy farm in mid-Missouri, about 100 miles west of St. Louis.  We moved to a 160-acre farm when I was 5 and I left when I went of to college/work.  We had Guernsey cows, a few horses, lots of cats, a couple of dogs, chickens, guinea hens and we tried pigs, but they didn't work out.  Dad even had a couple of blue-tick coon hounds, then had a litter of pups.  I learned how to plow and helped bale hay in the summer.  Winters were rough, picking holes in the pond so the cows could have drinking water, getting hay put out so they could feed on it.  Dad had a huge garden, so Mom put up lots of vegetables.  When I graduated from college, I moved to St. Louis to work as a computer programmer, and I've been here ever since.

Oh, by the way -- your friend that also lost her boob in the apple orchard, can you tell her my story?  I hope she's still around.  That was a really funny story.  And, I was curious -- about your trip -- I couldn't tell where you are starting out from.

Just thought I stop by and comment. I like your site. I live in Kansas but we did travel this past August to Arizona to see my grandmother. In Greensburg, KS is the largest hand-dug well. I know that KS wasn't on your traveling-home list, but we are all flat land! My daughter's loved walking down into the well.

My other favorite place was Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Loretto Chapel with the winding staircase. To be able to travel with my parents and get to take my mom to see the staircase, was wonderful.

Safe trip and God's blessings as you travel.   Julie

If you are traveling across Texas on I -40 (AKA  Route 66) be sure to stop at Groom Texas. It will be about 30 miles east of Amarillo. They have the 2 nd largest cross in the Western Hemisphere.  You can see the cross miles before you get to it.  But the cross is not the best part of the site. Plan at least a 30 - 45 minute stop. They have the stations in Christ's life portrayed in Bronze statues at the foot of the cross. Wonderful work.  They also have the empty tomb , the 3 on the cross, and some other areas of interest.  There is a gift shop to go through also.  There is no charge to go through it, they do have a donation bucket in the gift shop if you want to leave a donation but there is no pressure to do so. This project was started and is being carried on by the family of  Zack Thomas (Miami Dolphins pro football player) I don't think you will find that information at the site.  Here is a website about it.  http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tips/getAttraction.php3?tip_AttractionNo==1912   Also on I-40 in Oklahoma city be sure to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial of the bombing of the federal building 10 years ago.  I have not been inside the Museum but have stopped and walked around the outside area a couple of times.. It is very moving.  Last time I was there it was about 11PM at night with a group of ladies.  It was well lit and had security guards there. I think it was even more impressive at night. http://www.oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org
