I wrote this last night, then couldn't get on line to post it.

HAD IT NOT HAPPENED TO ME........

I don't think I'd have believed it!!!   I went to the local laundromat this evening.  I had three of those Vellux (sp) light weight WARM blankets.  Decided I'd just take all three and try to soften them up.  They were still pretty new-stiff.  Two of them I had washed, in the past, and evidentally one of them, had never been laundered.  Two were king sized, and one queen size.  None of them were really soiled.  One, from Sears, I'd had several years, but it had been in the package after only using it maybe a week.  I put it back on the closet shelf.  The other two were from Penney's.

So..........I put one king size in, started the machine.  Put the next King size in....started THAT machine.  Finally, I put the queen size in and also started that one.  They were the triple size washers, and I turned the water on hot, hoping they'd soften up.

I sat down to read my latest Birds & Blooms.  Number one got done.  I took it out and put it in a big dryer.  Number two and number 3 stopped at the same time.  Wouldn't you know it, I looked in # 2 and thought "GEE WHIZ!!!  I just washed somebody else's clothes that they left in the machine."   Some flimsey nylon net something .....  I was just SURE I'd put the money in MY machine.  I went on to the next machine, took that blanket out and put it in the dryer with the first one.   Now, back to see if I can find which washer I put # 2 in.

I couldn't believe my eyes!!!!  It was the right machine!!  That big blanket had disintegrated!!!!!   All that was left was a 90 X 108 piece of nylon net with blue satin binding.  When I removed it from the washer, there was still a bit of blue 'snow' that fell off it onto the floor.  That one was the Sears blanket.  Too old now, to go complain, even though it had only been used, maybe, a week.

I threw it in the trash.  But then I thought.....maybe we could use it at the pond party to throw over a sleeping child, or over a table of food to keep the insects off.   I brought it home.  I looked at the price that had been on the package, and it said $49.95.  Well, so much for that!!!!

I had thought I'd wait until tomorrow to get groceries, when I went in to get the income tax done, but we're supposed to get heavy rain tomorrow, so I decided to get that done today too.  I have the frozen and cold stuff put away, but the rest of it is on the table and counter.  Tomorrow's another day.....I'll take care of that then.

Catch ya all later.  Don't go washin' any Sears blankets now.   (~;  Granny

Granny, I just have to say that I am pretty sure you shouldn't wash velux blankets in hot water!   Oh well!  :)

I had a comforter with vellux on one sided ... the vellux side disintegrated in the washer too.  I feel your pain.

Oh my gosh!  How funny!!  Just as well  you didn't keep the scraps, though.  They would never be around when you actually needed them, but always in the way when you don't.

while reading the price tag did you notice washing instructions per chance?

ryc: 'main journal' I referred to has the link in the side bar for web page. But it is http://mizbee.net and click on the tag Patchwork of thoughts.

Ha!  I probably would have thought of uses for the remains of the blanket too.  I've never had that happen but I won't buy any Velux blankets from Sears now.  Whether it should or shouldn't be washed in hot water, it should not fall apart that completely.  Sears probably would replace it, if you think it's worth the hassle to return it.

I am not familiar with that kind of fabric but sorry it got damaged like that! I once had a blanket that I washed in hot water to soften it up and it came out with a matted appearance but I still used it during the winter and it kept me warm. With it costing that much it should have held up better than that.

Glad you got your shopping done before the bad weather. They say we are supposed to get freezing rain and in the northern part ice storms. Going to leave a little early for church tomorrow.

One time my grandma was washing clothes at the laundromat and the elastic of her underwear actually caught fire. Laundromats can be very dangerous!!!

I too am interested in the granny's underwear! I got such a laugh out of that!  It isn't what they meant but how it came across to us reading it.  I have a warpped mind!

I think I'd have taken everything I could find including the packaging and taken it to Sears just for the heck of it.  One older lady in a snit could have made the difference in no blanket and a new blanket.  Now you'll never know!

Sorry about that blanket. We just bought a king size bed this winter and I am having trouble finding a king size comforter that actually comes down over the sides. They usually just cover the top and run over maybe a few inches . I like coverage. From now on I will measure first. Hey, what is a "California King"?

Granny...when I started reading your entry I found myself thinking "OH PLEASE dont let the one she bought at Sears fall apart!!"  I worked for Sears for about 8 years, first as a Receiving Clerk then a receiving and replenishment supervisor. Things have changed a LOT there since I left, used to be that you could bring ANYTHING in...and they would take it back...even if we didnt actually carry anything like that. The customer was "King" and we did whatever we could to make them "Happy"...but no more....now you have 6 months..have to have a receipt...and they dont give cash back...just gift cards...so you have to spend the money in Sears. I am getting ready to go in and contact one of my old buddies there....the exercise bike that my hubby bought me for Christmas...suddenly went kaflooey on my last night....I was peddling away...and then whap...nothing....just free wheeling. My husband is NOT happy...this means he will have to take it apart...so we can get the offending parts to the store. I am sorry about your blanket.....next time...WARM water..not Hot....lol

For the first time since I've subbed to you, it's not got all the gibberish. Woohoo! What did you do to fix it?

Cool on the fix! I'll make a note of it. I actually have had people ask me about that several times, and checked their keyboard driver and it's been fine. So now I know. When I researched it on the net, that answer didn't come up.

Anyway, I'm glad it worked for ya!

I re-sent the friends invite, so once you accept it you'll be able to go to my site.
