I FEEL THE NEED TO DO A HAPPY DANCE!!!

I want to go outside and SHOUT to the heavens that I'm SO happy!!!   My daughter, SouthForkCheerMom, finally has a diagnosis....Cushings Syndrome, and it can be fixed with surgery, to remove a tumor on her adrenal gland, then medication.   Her body has been ravaged with this disease for quite a long time,  and FINALLY,  we know what's causing it!!! She's to talk to the surgeon today to set up the surgery date.   Even though she's not happy about doing it just before Christmas, Jeff (her hubby) and I are pushing her to do the surgery YESTERDAY!!!    Talk about the best Christmas anyone could ever have!!!!    (extra edited note:  For those of you who have e-mailed, and called me, wondering about this disease, she posted pictures and symptoms on her Nov. 29th post, titled INFO ON CUSHINGS.  It's a private post, but if you are not on her list, you can contact me and I'll tell her to let you in.)  Here's the story of another person who has it. http://www.cushings-help.com/media_kinne.htm

The week following my last post was spent getting a permanent, so my hair would look decent for the holidays,  and making last minute preparations for the purchase of another farm, consisting of almost 72 acres.   Except for a little over an acre of timber, it's all good rich central Illinois farm land.   No houses or buildings...just farm ground.  We closed on that this past Monday morning, so now, Me-N-the-Bank own it.    ( o;

Tuesday, I had a dental appointment in the morning, then that night, I had an Ethanol meeting, concerning the plant we're in the process of building, about 75 miles from here.   My daughter met me on the highway after dark, and is trying to spread it around that I had a hot date, but it WAS an Ethanol meeting, and I was the oldest one there!!

Wednesday, yesterday, I had an appointment with my arthritis specialist.  He's ordered me back into therapy for a while, then wants to see me again in 6 weeks.

My daughter-in-law's parents invited me to come to Peoria for this week-end, and I really would like to do that, but the minister asked me to sing with him at a special event here, this coming Sunday.  I think that's probably what I'll do, because we have a snow alert in effect for tonight and a mixture of ice, snow, or freezing rain, the rest of the week.  Might make more sense to stay closer to home.

I don't have any decorations up yet.  Kirstie finishes with her finals on the 10th, and said if I could wait that long, she could help me after that.  I'M WAITIN' !!!!!!  Except for little trees to use in a wintery Christmas scene, I put in the bay window, I won't be having a tree this year.  My muscles, bones and joints, just don't want to cooperate any more.

Gotta get away from this computer and get some stuff picked up and put away.  I changed my bed last night and put on the electric blanket, so I need to get those sheets washed too.  I bought a heated mattress pad a couple of days ago, but think I've  decided to take it back and use the blanket instead.   Any of you have experience with heated mattress pads?  Do you like them?   Better than the blanket?  Why?

Catch you next time.    Granny

Still thinking about before Christmas.  Haven't ruled it out, but we'll see.  I want it overwith YESTERDAY too, but .......

I would put the matress pad on and see if I liked it.  Might help with muscle pain!

Love you!  YUB

I used a heated mattress pad, and loved it.  But my husband hated it, so we don't use it anymore.  I'd put it on, warm up the bed, and then turn it off when I actually got in.  It was so nice to crawl into a pre-warmed bed.  No more icy sheets.

We LOVE our elect. matt. pad. If Wil weren't like sleeping with a furnace I'd put an elect. blanket on top and make me a "warmth sandwich". I also use flannel sheets but the matt. pad has everything warm for me when I get in and no muscels tighten up on me.

To warm in Texas for a heated anything on the bed ! I sleep under a sheet -bedspread and fold a blanket at the foot of the bed !!!

I hope daughter gets her surgery done as soon as she can--I know she will feel better and putting if off just gives you more time to worry !

I am glad your daughter finally got a diagnosis.  I always feel that is half the battle.

Regarding electric blanket or mattress pad.  I have a blanket, but haven't used in several years.  Ken has----and uses---both!!  He says he is a toast sandwich.  I had read somewhere that the electrical fields produced are not good for you.  That is still being debated.   Ken's heart rate drops down waaaay low at night, and that is why he gets cold then.

So glad your daughter got a diagnosis.  Interesting link to Cushing's too.  I had not heard of it.  Not knowing is the pitts and getting a Dr. that will really listen isn't easy.

I use an electric blanket but haven't tried the heated mattress pad.  I wouldn't get much sleep without the blanket which I turn on 1/2 hr. before going to bed.

Ha, the comment by BluebirdChris is funny.....Ethanol Anonymous.  So is it true?  Do you have a problem with Ethanol?

Glad you are getting out and about, Granny. Maybe Dylan can put the tree up for you?? Thanks for sharing that info about Cushing's syndrome. I told your daugther to let me know when she has a date so I can put her on our prayer chain at our church. Never had an electric blanket but I am going to check into that heated mattress pad, even if only to warm the bed up before getting in.

I didn't even know they HAD heated mattress pads!  I just need something for my poor lumpy fingers so far.

We were supposed to get an ethanol plant here but I don't think they are going to, and I'm glad.  I heard there can be problems with them.

Be careful with all that winter weather!

RYC: I wonder how many who get Christmas letters really do sit and read them. I do it for entertainment value on some we get. They are soooooo flowery and since we have close knowledge of some of the families we really get a good laugh.

RYC:  I can't remember all the details now, since I looked up research online some time ago.  One problem was, if I remember correctly, they use a lot of water, which would be a problem for our area, and is a growing problem for many communities now.  The other problem I heard mentioned is that, although the odors and emissions may be controlled now,  as the facility ages, there is often a problem with those things, especially if the company is not focused on ongoing maintenance.  Those are the only things I remember now, but you could probably find more information online.

Xanga lost one of my comments tonight, too!

Curious what you plan for that farm land now. As for ethanol there has been such a stink about what it is doing to the corn industry. I know for awhile I couldn't even get corn cobs at the feed store. Also a lot of talk about the inability to get the fuel to enough places. Yet.

I know you are so relieved to finally have a definite solution to the situation with your daughter...it is so terrible to sit and watch someone that you love, as they suffer. Please, in case she forgets...(as if she would...lol) let us know when the surgery date is set so that I can get her on the prayer chain at church!!! The is something online called Caringbridge...I could get you the website I think....that is a wonderful way to keep on online journal of medical recovery and such....maybe she would be interested in checking into it. I have been following the recovery of a young gal in the area who was severely injured in a auto accident several months ago.
You mentioned Christmas decorations and it reminded me...I MUST go downstairs this evening and get my nativity scene out...cant have Christmas without it!!!
Have a good Sunday...they have already canceled our services...we wouldnt have had a dozen people there if they had gone ahead with it.

RYC: No churches open here and we couldn't get out to go if there were. We have the bathtub full to use to flush if needed and a large water cooler filled for drinking etc. I just hope and pray it doesn't come to that. I'm a city/town girl and this is not my idea of fun! Just wish we had a compressor. I think that is what they are called, for back up. It isn't just the losing of power etc. and everything we have runs off elect., but the idea that at this point we can't get up the lane to the road and then we are still in an up-hill battle for quite some distance on the road. Guess you could say everything is up or down hill from here.

GET that generator!   That electric pad or blanket won't help you without it if your electricity goes off.  I have never used a electric pad but have a top blanket I use every winter.  My sister has the heated matress pad and loves it.  I think I prefer the top cover because if I get too warm I can instantly get rid of the heat.  You can't throw the mattress pad off that easy.
