I just had to share a story. Monday was opening day for turkey season in Missouri. Jeremy took off Monday and Tuesday to hunt......anyway, Jeremy and Joel were headed out to hunt at the Teghtmeyers and Drew called Joel and told him that he had hit a turkey. with his truck on his way into school......so Joel and Jeremy are given this turkey......Jeremy takes it home and cleans it and gives half to Joel and we kept the other half. Mark, Cindy and Joel ate theirs on Wednesday night and Jeremy fixed ours on Thursday night......anyway as we were eating this turkey it hit me that we were eating road kill! I looked at Jeremy and I said "hey, we are eating road kill." Jeremy just looked at me trying to make me be quiet in front of the girls, but by that time Sarah got really tickled. You know, I know times are tough with the gas prices and food prices going up, but I don't know if it is bad enough to eat road kill at this point ha!

You might be a red neck if................ lol

@sc_ross - actually (I have to confess) I have tried a very tiny bite of squirrel! (although it wasn't road kill) See, we had this pest problem when we lived in Ozark and Jeremy started shooting them with his BB gun...anyway, there was a sister there that enjoyed eating squirrel...so we thought we were wasteful just tossing them, so we started giving them to her....anyway, she in return thought it would be kind to have us over for dinner since we were supplying her with so much squirrel! I did try a tiny sliver and you hear so many people say this about interesting and different meat, but it really did taste like chicken! :)
It is getting to be almost easy enough just to sit in your garage and wait for the critters to run by so's you can git you some supper. That is a great story you shared! I have 'bagged' a deer and a turkey (the picture of our 'turkeyed' van windshield is somewhere on my xanga site-probably about a year ago), but didn't get to eat them, sadly.
Sara Ross's mother-in-law cooked us the most exotic wildlife we ever ate- a groundhog!! I still remember that. Even though it was cooked low and slow and smothered in barbecue sauce, it was tough chewing. I am sure that Neal got his fair share of that meal, when the Woodys and the Ross families were living in Joplin in the early 80s.
LOL!
@houseofherms - not on your first visit. :)
Tee Hee Hee...funny! We had road kill this year too...deer meat. Brian couldn't let a good deer got to waste. After the sherriff shot it that is...sigh. Guess we should be getting back to the "gatherer" role if our men are being the hunters...wonder if that red berry is edible?
