| | Well, the week is already almost over.
I'm teaching at the MacPhail Center for the Arts. It seems to be a pretty sophisticated place to me. For one thing, there are big signs in the windows with witty slogans:
"Helping Minnesotans find their voice since 1907."
"Where kids learn to conduct, themselves."
"Learn a second language. (Music)"
"Smashing Guitar Lessons"
"If your kids bang on pots and pans they are musically inclined."
A new, multi-million dollar facility is currently in the works. The old, multi-thousand dollar facilty that they are currently housed in reminds me of the where I used to go to the pediatrician. It's not air conditioned and it has a similar, really-old-elevator with round black buttons that look just like the ones in the old doctor building...
Musically, though, they are very hip. They have a big Suzuki Program (which is why I was invited here), but also many other programs in addition to it. The other night when I was done with my classes, there was a Jazz Vocal lab with a live quartet jamming in the lobby.
Last night I met with my former Practice Partner from Berklee days who I don't think I've seen since I left Boston. Dean Magraw is a great guy and musician in the Twin Cities - listen to his music and buy a CD. - ( Thanks to MySpace, I found his profile and got back in touch...)
The Faculty Concert was today...by special request, I played "Classical Gas." It's still a big hit...yes, it is.
Final Concerts are tomorrow. It's been a nice week.
