  • Has THE Mouse become a rat?

I've been hearing a lot of brouhaha about Miley Cyrus posing for Vanity Fair.

Now, on the surface, it doesn't really look all that bad to me. But for those of you unfamiliar with her, Miley Cyrus is the white hot Disney commodity known as "Hannah Montana."

Now call me what you will ... but I find it VERY hard to imagine Disney was "shocked" and unaware of Ms. Cyrus' Vanity Fair photo shoot. In fact, I do wonder if THE Mouse gave a wink and a nod to it.
To back that up ... I came across another interesting bit of Mickey Mouse shenanigans. Seems Disney has been using rather youngish looking models to promote their underwear line ... with a bit of extra sass to them.

    Here's one shot:

Are any of you seeing "Winnie the Pooh" here?

The full story can be found here: "Disney's Dirty Little (Victoria's) Secret"

So what do you think? Is Disney deliberately marketing the sex appeal of their young starlets? If so, should they? Or, is the whole issue just a tempest in a teapot?

they know better. the days of their kids having things in their contracts about not showing belly buttons are long gone. everything is about the money...and sex sells the most.

I honestly don't think this could happen elsewhere than America.  When Disney opened offices in London a few years ago their autocratic company policies led staff to refer to them as "Mousewitz".   Head office threatened dismissals.  They then started calling it "Duckau".

I got a kick out of the link though - especially the nutjob that claims there are "phallic" symbols and "hidden messages" in Disney films.

@ihaveanalibi - I remember the uproar over the cover art on The Little Mermaid video. Disney ended up changing it, but I have the original. Maybe I should put it on eBay. The underwear ads are disturbing because of how young they made the models look with their hair styles and makeup.

As for the Miley Cyrus photo, I put the blame squarely on the photographer. She probably got the girl feeling comfortable and confident and then applied pressure for that shot. I know when my daughter had senior pictures taken, I was not allowed into the studio, so I doubt this young girl had an adult in the room with her to look out for her best interests. Annie Lebovitz and Vanity Fair should be ashamed.

@saintvi - you know, at first I didn't think it was that bad, but now.....yeah, Vanity Fair should be ashamed. On the other hand, why did her parents even let her get in that situation in the first place? Its not like Vanity Fair doesn't have a track record of this stuff. Billy Ray should have known better.

Disney should just leave the girls alone. It happens every time. Lindsay, Britney, Hillary, now Miley......sigh. what a world.

The skivvy adds are disturbing but I am glad it is not a thong for girls that young.
I I hope that this is not the beginning of the end  for Miley...I hate to see these young girls get swallowed whole by the fast life.

Honestly, I have a feeling that Miley, who has been under the spotlight for years now, may be starting to rebel a little.

I think it's absolutely plausible that once dad was out of sight, she was more comfortable to be herself.  It seems that 15 year old girls have more sexual energy today than anytime since the Victorian era.  I say this because I have a 15 year old daughter, with a lot of 15 year old friends, who everytime their parents aren't watching, get a little on the wild side with their myspace pics etc.  I also have a feeling that Miley felt very at ease in this photo shoot and I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't a hint flattered as well.  (Normal responses for a girl that age, hey, for a girl of any age!)

Adults, all of us, need to keep harping on these kids, letting them know that being seen as a sexual object is going to do nothing but hurt them in the long run.  I really do believe that it takes a village to raise a child.  But the villagers really need to have a good values system.

Throwing stones at her parents doesn't solve anything.  We've all made some pretty bad parenting mistakes.  It seems that Miley's parents believe her when she sings the old "I didn't know" song.  They do need to wake up and realize that their little girl is a budding woman.  If my hunches are right, then Miss Miley, though a willing and possibly even a leading participant, needs some strict guidelines and a break from the spotlight.

    Just my humble opinion.

By the way, the underwear ads are women dressed as little girls.  A bit perverse I know. Girls that are as young as they are "pretending" to be, aren't that comfy doing underwear shots.  And if they are, someone needs to be arrested.  Again, just my humble opinion.

@saintvi - Her dad was there the whole time from what I've read, and the pics showed her shoulder and back only.  I think Disney's just got their "lacy boy shorts" in a twist....and I agree with you on that subject - it doesn't matter what the reality of the models age is, it's the age they are depicted to be.  Am I the only one thinking that Disney's stock in trade is fantasy and they've really got no business selling children's underwear?

Honestly, I wish people would leave Miley alone and let her live her life. She seems pretty far removed from most teen stars, and I'm rather happy about that. Can't we just let her be? I'm sure I don't know everything there is to know about her or her career, but for the most part I think she is pretty terrific.

I... don't even know what to think anymore.  It could have been worse.  It could have been better.  She was taken advantage of a bit.  She gave in a bit much.  Parents or not, kids do what they will.  All parents I should think would remember that.  All the best parenting in the world means nothing without God.  Even with Him it can go quite poorly no matter how faithful you are.

    I'm not a fan of the pictures posted here because... well I'm a 22 year old single male.  Fill in the not too blank blanks.  It's hard enough without pictures... --;

Guys will do what they want with images, whether clothed or not.  You can wear a parka and if a guy wants to, you're going to become his idol.  The woman's job, as I see it, is just not to provoke us into doing it.  Her picture probably was provocative.  At least that's all it was, in a way.

In the end... she feels remorse.  I'm inclined to believe her, since she had no reason to not say so.  No one in the world would have really cared in her industry other than Christian mothers and fathers.  I have no reason to believe otherwise, too.  She regretted it.  If she never does it again -- THAT is the test of character.  Everyone falls.  What do you do to get back up?

    God bless,
    ~Scott

Hmmmmm...... I'm MORE concerned about the pics of her posing with her Dad looking EXTREMELY as if they are a "couple".  If the officials raiding  ranches in Texas to check out accusations of polygamy and young girls being forced to marry old guys can find a minute to spare, they might want to take a look at those pictures and do some follow up.  IF the male in the picture had been 20 years younger, perhaps, and not her father, I would not have found them all that offensive.  BUT, it was her Pop, and he's not a young man.

I also checked out the video of the photo shoot.  Young Miley didn't seem all that comfortable to me in between the obvious sultry poses.  I can imagine her little brain rationalizing, "Doesn't this make us look like a couple?  This doesn't feel right.  But, surely, if Dad thinks it's ok, it must be, because surely my parents wouldn't have me do anything that was bad.  Would they?  The photographer must be right.  This is just artsy."

Sadly, even posing in sexy shots is not enough bridge the celebrity career path from childhood to adulthood these days.  It has cross the lines of not only decency but normalcy as well.... same gender kissing... looking ill and abused.... and now, incestuous.

While I do believe Miley felt qualms while posing with her dad, other pics indicate she was doing some pretty creepy "MySpace" type photos of herself and friends on her own, including "faux lesbian poses" etc.

Kids today are exposed to SO much, and there is no true way to protect them.  Unfortunately, locking them in a barrel and feeding them through a straw has not been proven to produce healthy adults either!

    Scribble outside the lines...

1st of all I'm surprised that you had the nerve to post those pictures on your site!
Shame on you for giving the  undies ad one more place for a pedifile's to get their lust fulfilled at!
You can talk about such things without giving them more net space- like don't they have too much already?!

I'm an extreme conservative when it comes to stuff like that though. I think that people should be shown with cloths on...Not off-in any shape or form.

The term for those pictures is "Soft Porn."

How did people market under garments before the media? Greed and Lust is what drives the Media - they know that sex sells. They will push as hard as they can. But if you give Satan any room at all, he will exploit it to the max!

The drop of the "fight against it" only tells us one inescapable thing...
We live on a very fallen planet- it is only going to get worse until the Lord returns and puts and end to it all. My view is - don't give them anymore attention then what they already have- and do the battle the Lord has called us to do. "Avoid all appearances of evil."

I would not hurt you for the world Humble Walk, I hope you know that- I would not have said what I did - if I didn't care. I know you love the Lord but do be more careful!
