This morning I got up pretty early and went to a track with a few people and did what is called surge training.  It works like this.  For two minutes you walk or warm up or whatever.  Then 20 seconds of full steam whatever (running, walking, jogging, jumping jacks... whatever you want)  then 20 seconds of rest.  You do three rotations of the 20 seconds on and off.  Then two minutes of slow walking.   Three times... so by the time you are done, you've walked for 6 minutes, ran for 3 minutes and rested for 3 minutes.   My face was red, but I did way better than I thought I would.  YAY!!!

There is something holy about moving. I don't mean this to sound like I'm on a soapbox, because I'm not.  God gave me a body and it is my job to take care of it.  I can choose to sit around and watch tv and eat ice cream or I can choose to eat veggies and run around a track sometimes.   If I choose to run a little, chances are I might live longer therefore I'd be able to do God's work here a little longer.  SWEET!!!   As an added bonus, I don't have to spend a ton of money on clothes all the time since I pretty much stay in the same size range.

This morning as I was running and walking I was also praying.  I got to see the sun come up, and for brief times depending on my location on the track, it was right in my eyes.  I got to hear the birds singing.  I got to feel the gnats swarming.  (I'm sure the frogs are glad God created them)   I got to move around in the body God gave me and feel how it all works together.  I got to see other people move around too.  I was one of maybe two or three that was able to run.  Some of the folks there struggled to walk, but they were moving and thanking God that they could move.  I'm here to tell you that was a blessing.

I am doing my best to teach my children about being good stewards (or servants) of the things God gives to us.  I think most of us consider money when we talk about being good stewards.  I believe that carries across to things like time and body and stuff and money.  I can choose to use those things wisely or waste them.  In our house we are making an intentional effort to make good choices about food, time, money and our bodies.  We use the word "healthy" a lot.  We don't use words like, diet or excercise.  Instead we say we want to be healthy and maintain the beautiful and wonderful thing God gave to us called a body.  Our girls are starting to get that.  A healthy choice is an apple and a bike ride.  Sometimes, we have an apple and a board game.  We are striving for healthy lifestyle.

I like the peace and solitude of getting out early in the morning and running or walking and spending a little time with God.  I think everyone should do that.  Give it a try and see  if you don't feel better.  Even short walks or pulling weeds too will be a more healthy choice than 2 hours of a reality TV show.

    Have a happy day!
