Physical Fitness
This morning I got up pretty early and went to a track with a few people and did what is called surge training. It works like this. For two minutes you walk or warm up or whatever. Then 20 seconds of full steam whatever (running, walking, jogging, jumping jacks... whatever you want) then 20 seconds of rest. You do three rotations of the 20 seconds on and off. Then two minutes of slow walking. Three times... so by the time you are done, you've walked for 6 minutes, ran for 3 minutes and rested for 3 minutes. My face was red, but I did way better than I thought I would. YAY!!!
There is something holy about moving. I don't mean this to sound like I'm on a soapbox, because I'm not. God gave me a body and it is my job to take care of it. I can choose to sit around and watch tv and eat ice cream or I can choose to eat veggies and run around a track sometimes. If I choose to run a little, chances are I might live longer therefore I'd be able to do God's work here a little longer. SWEET!!! As an added bonus, I don't have to spend a ton of money on clothes all the time since I pretty much stay in the same size range.
This morning as I was running and walking I was also praying. I got to see the sun come up, and for brief times depending on my location on the track, it was right in my eyes. I got to hear the birds singing. I got to feel the gnats swarming. (I'm sure the frogs are glad God created them) I got to move around in the body God gave me and feel how it all works together. I got to see other people move around too. I was one of maybe two or three that was able to run. Some of the folks there struggled to walk, but they were moving and thanking God that they could move. I'm here to tell you that was a blessing.
I am doing my best to teach my children about being good stewards (or servants) of the things God gives to us. I think most of us consider money when we talk about being good stewards. I believe that carries across to things like time and body and stuff and money. I can choose to use those things wisely or waste them. In our house we are making an intentional effort to make good choices about food, time, money and our bodies. We use the word "healthy" a lot. We don't use words like, diet or excercise. Instead we say we want to be healthy and maintain the beautiful and wonderful thing God gave to us called a body. Our girls are starting to get that. A healthy choice is an apple and a bike ride. Sometimes, we have an apple and a board game. We are striving for healthy lifestyle.
I like the peace and solitude of getting out early in the morning and running or walking and spending a little time with God. I think everyone should do that. Give it a try and see if you don't feel better. Even short walks or pulling weeds too will be a more healthy choice than 2 hours of a reality TV show.
Have a happy day!

Such a good teacher. I need to get motivated so thanks. I may not be able to do much but I do and walk some with my walker. It just brings alot of pain when walking.
It is good to teach our children such important values! So many kids these days lack that! Have a great day! Tracy
HA!
I read what you wrote on Donkey's site! Doug and I were in Cozumel, Mexico, on a clear (boat) kayak excursion. But don't do it. It was too much work, and you couldn't see much at all. We really didn't enjoy it very much. Instead, go snorkeling. It was just too awesome!!! I am not much into swimming at all, and I thought I would hate it, but I found that I absolutely loved it, and wished we could have traded in our kayaking time for snorkeling! You can see so much underwater there!
That's great! I am getting convicted about dragging myself back to the gym!
What an uplifting post! Thanks!
Glad you are working with your kids on this too!
Shiny! For about a month now I've been back into the very active exercise and physical activity routine I was in back in Florida. And in Arkansas, I can play tennis for FREE! Sweet!
thanks for the gentle "nudge"--i was in need of it!
Sounds like a great way to spend your morning!!! It also sounds like you did a great job of keeping up with the pace!!!
Hope the rest of your day was a good one!!!!
I love to walk just before the sun comes up...everyday!
I got rally red walking in NYC! It was hot!
Oh! Just about anything is better than TV! If you have a mouse in your hand - its hard to eat! LOL!
How early is early? I have trouble getting to a 9am class 3 times a week to excercise. I pray when I do the aerobics class. I pray that I live through the hour!
I have intermitten excercise blended with leg elevations which is healthy for me...LOL
Of course I have to keep your New Years Resolves ...LOL
It does help to stay as active as possible. Another good thing for the lungs is some good singing. got to stand up with good posture for it to have the best effect.
Have a good afternoon also!!
hugs
Yes, sitting around eating ice cream! You are a woman after my own heart! Now what's all this other jibberish about exercise?
I am thinking about once a week updates!
