  • The Down and the Praise

    Ummm... what was that??
Not long ago, a tragedy took place not 30 feet from where I sit, typing.  It was a beautiful and warm day outside (yes, it was still winter), so I decided to wash and clean my Jeep.  To do so, I removed everything within, including my camera bag with all my equipment.  I finished with the Jeep and began to pull it from the garage.  I ran over something.  What was that?  I went around to look, then felt sick.  It was the camera bag.  Tread marks right across the bag, which lay face down and motionless (of course it was motionless, but that sounds far more dramatic).  After inspecting the bag (afraid to look inside right away), I looked inside to find my main lense detached from the 5D... not how I left it.  Everything looked okay though!  The wide-angle couldn't be reattached (*sigh*... I broke the ring on it), but some shots with the 50mm told me that the little 5D was more than a match for the Jeep!  That's one tough little camera.  Nevertheless, I'm limited to a fixed-lense 50mm and my telephoto.  It's a hard adjustment, but I'd rather be out one fairly cheap lense than out one very expensive camera!
When have you ever felt very afraid that you just broke something VERY important?

10 Day Forecast?  No real snow... still. *sigh*
True, this winter isn't exactly what people all over the US expected.  Some are disappointed (*waving hand vigorously).  Some enjoy it.  And I'm sure there are others.  However you face it, it's a reminder of Psalm 74:17 (reference banner above).  We struggle to even accurately predict the weather later in the day!  The weather of this world is far beyond out control and yet what effort was it for God to produce?  He knows the numbers of the stars and the grains of sand; He knows each amazingly unique snow flake.  Yet how much more does He still care for us?  We are given the ability to give Him praise like nothing else.  Let's not forget to do so.

    Crazy!
    Sorry about your lost lens!
    Want to sell it cheap?

Oh no! I am glad that your camera didn't receive that much damage. It could of been a lot worse. I broke one of my grandma's Hummel (very important, German stuff) figureine once. It was a complete accident while I was dusting, but I felt horrible.

Thanks for the reminder about praising God in all circumstances including cold weather. Lol, I need to remember that. It's very cold in Phoenix, not normally like this and I've been griping.

    Have a great day, Jason!

I had a day like that, when I hit my daughter's brand new Subaru with my Bronco...carved in her rear panel and tore off the tail light...found a small scratch on the Bronco's bumper. Not a good day.
Yet out of the crying and stress came a break through in my husband and my relationship...God CAN use all things for good when we turn to HIM.
I'm glad your camera wasn't smashed

Wow! You are one blessed man!
(You know you can add a camera to your insurance policy right? It's something like 5 dollars a month and covers things like dropping them...might be something to look into;)

what a loser. geez...get out of my family room and go fix my computer!

that is a killer.  I was moving out of the dorm in college one year and had an armload of stuff and my camera around my neck.  Somehow the strap let loose and I still have this image in my head of the camera bouncing from concrete step to concrete step down two flights of stairs.  It was never the same.     Good to see you back!  Featured the first day?

yeah the snow... We are finally finally getting ours. It's snowed lots this week finally!

But I have to take responsibility and apologize for the way the weather has been. A very long story, but due to some crazy circumstances, for the first time ever my friend and I prayed very hard for no snow for Christmas. Whaddaya know I didn't realize it would be so widespread. I feel very sorry for the effect it had on the ppl in Colorado.... and for those of you whose snow hasn't caught up yet...

so that's my apology. I'll hopefully not have to pray for that again!! :)

Actually we are suppose to be getting snow Sun-tues....perhaps a few inches on Sun. Unfortunately it is predicted to end in the afternoon...not late enough for school to be cancelled.

.... i almost cried. i thought the camera was dead. you should write a story about it, though. i mean, it should be called something like, "if it broke". ....... not like i'm making fun of OJ Simpson or anything there.

    ANYWAY.

    to answer your question..

yeah. my iPod. my beautiful, beautiful 30GB iPod on the concrete. but it had actually broken that time. you're a lucky, lucky man.

I know how you feel about the camera.  A posting in May about breaking my camera said it all.  It was like loosing a family member at the time(that is my own personal drama added to enhance this comment).  I replaced the camera that day as we were to be leaving for our daughter's graduation the next weekend.   RYC and you can change places with me this weekend.

Geez, I was so afraid for you to look in the bag!  WHEW!  That was close!

This week I was putting a cheapie dvd player in the bedroom and I knocked over a couple of glass things (off the bureau).  I didn't think much of it until one hit the other...and I remembered one of them was the topper to our wedding cake.  OOPS!

It's way back in the corner.  Yep still there.  Probably more because I'm not ready to deal than laziness!

Thanks for your comment.  Looks like I'll see those people tomorrow.

I'm glad your camera survived. I once was terrified that my roommate's cat had broken my ex-whatever's camera. TERRIFIED, b/c he couldn't afford a new camera and that one was close to $400. So, I called HIS roomie, a technological sort of guy, and he came to my rescue. The cat had knocked it off the couch onto the hard, tile floor. The roomie saved the day and fixed it. With the way that relationship has ended up, though, I almost wish it had broken. (I know that's bitter, but it's a fresh kind of scar that I'm dealing with.) It's a good camera, though, so for the camera's sake, I'm glad it survived.

Just ran onto your site ~ LOVE your photography ~ a couple of favorites ~ "Fog on Cemetery" and "Broken Home" ~ clever title for that one.  Very glad your camera is okay.

Sadness for the wide-angle! I'm so glad your camera didn't suffer any life-threatening injuries.
