A Camping Test, A Jesus Test, and Photos

Campsite at SunsetThe Not-so-great outdoors
We needed a short trip to test out some new camping gear as well as our son's camping skills. We decided on Caesar Creek State Park, which is a close campground we've never tried. The test results are in:
New tent: Wonderful tent and far far more spacious than I realized it would be. Bad for backpacking, but good for a family camping getaway.
New air mattress: Completely for the wife. And will be used only by the wife. After hours of poor to no sleep, I found peace on the soft spring ground. I could have sworn I felt a very mild earthquake.
Newest family member: Excellent camper and likes to pee on bugs. A little crazy in the tent however. Like me, has a thing for maglights. Had a propensity for reaching for knives.
State Park campsite: A bust. At an outrageous $24 a night it's definitely not worth camping underneath DHL's flight path to their local hub... not to mention waking up to a lawn mower. I could have not enjoyed that at home.
What was your last vacation like?Matthew 26:31-35
"Even if all others fall away on account of you, I never will." Without knowing all that happens later, Peter sounds pretty steadfast and committed here. But Jesus always sees past what sounds pretty. Peter is still being more Simon than Peter, arrogantly stating his confidence in himself. It is after all a statement about self. Peter is sure of what he can and will do, as far as he believes of course. I will this. I will never that. To complicate the matter, he was saying it to correct Jesus! "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." In the long run, he's held to just that. But he does disown Jesus for a time. They all do. A testament to that when we hold to ourselves and what we believe we are able to accomplish despite where He leads, we will fall away from Him and miss what He's doing. When we allow Jesus to guide us and trust not in ourselves but in Him, then we will truly be following Christ.

Beautiful looking spot! Too bad there was all that "outside interference". re Peter, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Except that the flesh has a stronghold on life most times. Now that's a bit of a paradox but still....

|Our last mini vacation was Saturday and Sunday, after a wonderful day off roading, we stayed in my mom's mtn cabin, then strolled through a daffodil garden the next morning
Your devotional makes me think of Proverbs 3:5-6, which I've been thinking about a lot lately.
no eProps for you, mister.
...fogetting about me...
well i had fun yesterday! anyways! without ya'll!!!
i always love those pictures of sunsets or sunrises between trees, they just catch my attention somehow
too bad for the interference...
My last vacation was in December of '06! It was awesome! I laid on the beach in Hawaii and relaxed! I spent time w/ my kids watching the tide roll in and the sun set...
I like your Matthew 26 paragraph too!
There's that nice Jeep again.
I don't remember my last vacation. For the holidays, though, my wife and I usually get to visit family. It helps that we live 1 hour away f/my parents. Her family is 7 hours away, so those trips are a bit more difficult.
Oh, wait. There was the day trip to Racoon Creek State Park, Pennsylvania. Yeah, any place called Racoon Creek ought not be made into a campground. Hence the day trip -- we had friends camping there on their 'vacations'. We went long enough to visit, but we couldn't bring ourselves to stay, what with the torrential rains, and the racoons, and such.
