  • Persistenct Faith and Persistent News

    All done workin daddy?
One of the things I've learned most recently from my son is that a two year old is persistent.  He'll ask a question repeatedly until someone responds.  A little like the old gag of poking someone over and over, eventually pointing out that "this will make your arm fall off in two days."  Perhaps God won't poke repeatedly until you respond (or your arm falls off), but God is indeed persistent. He is persistent in love and persistent and justice.  And though He reacts in the time of His choosing, He is still utterly patient.  Do you want to know Him?  Be closer to Him? Accomplish what He wants to do through you?  Be persistent as well.  Persistent in seeking Him in studies, prayer, etc.  Persistent in loving Him and others as He loves.  Persistent in moving away from the things that pull our focus away from Him.  So... run with perseverance! (Hebrews 12:1)

    Heresy!
Many of you have over time referenced Glenn Beck on various occasions.  Enough to have caught my curiousity.  It was advertised that last night he would be tackling global warming / climate change, so I decided it was time to see what the hub-bub was about, bub.  I enjoyed it.  Sure, it admittedly isn't the balanced perspective on global warming that I'm still waiting to see or hear, but it is a nice change of pace when the issue of global warming is on tv for an hour.  I especially liked the last segment on innovation, which reminds me of the best attempt I've heard of to design a new car: the Auto X Prize (a car version of the original space X Prize).  Now that's cool.  And far more effective potentially.  I won't bore you with a global warming question today, so... What news source do you refer to or even trust, if any?

Oh man, it's hard to be persistent sometimes when it comes to God. But I try, and I definitely feel God's persistance in my life.

I have no clue who Glenn Beck is. Oy vei. Global Warming...that's a whole another can of worms.

I trust CNN, it's always been good. And there is a local news station here. But CNN, in my opinion is the best.

    Have a great day, Jason!

Never CNN!   Fox News and my independent local newspaper

They say that the newsrooms of CNN, NBC, ABC, and CBS are are about 90% Democrat. At least Fox admits it has a tilt.

I'm not really all that fond of the news industry simply because their first priority is not truth but rather keeping their advertisers happy and thereby making a profit. News has become entertainment and has in the process lost much of its drive for real truth. I'm also not a great fan of the global warming thing since there seems to be so much politically driven misinformation on both sides of the issue. I'd be much happier if we focused on cleaning up the air because of the health issues (like asthma) that are on the rise because of air pollution. I would suggest a new book to you called, "Serve God Save the Planet" by Dr. Matt Sleath. His is a well thought out, balanced approach that is reasonably devoid of the hype and misinformation that typically come with the global warming issue.

I find I have to visit a variety of news sites to get the most complete picture (I don't have TV, so I get it all from the internet or radio).  Even then, I'm sure there are important details to every story that don't get reported.

I usually start w/the UK Telegraph and/or Yahoo! News.  (Yahoo carries 'wire news' from the AP mostly).  The UK Telegraph is good for international news, British news, and even American news.  I, too, visit FoxNews.com, but not very often, really.  I also tend to visit the DrudgeReport, though many of the articles Drudge singles out are not of interest to me.

I visit CNN.com for breaking news, if there's some big disaster under way, but only because they tend to be quick to post information.

Glenn Beck's show, by the way, is on CNN's cable channel -- but it's in the evening, and it is more 'commentary' than news, so many regular CNN viewers might miss it.

Otherwise, I find the best news articles usually by visiting blogs.  Counterterrorism.org has very, very in-depth news on terrorism around the world (including Iraq & Afghanistan); www.julescrittenden.com (a Boston Herald journalist) picks out some great articles on many subjects, and links to them; BlueCrabBoulevard.com is both funny and insightful (and unabashedly conservative); www.artsandlettersdaily.com has cultural news & commentary; www.healingiraq.blogspot.com is a blog by an Iraqi dentist who is living in Iraq.

And the most brilliant writer (I'm talking about ability or craft, not coverage) in journalism today:  Mark Steyn (www.steynonline.com).
