  • Jesus, The Resurrection, and His Message

Last year in history class my teacher was telling us about how, supposedly, the tomb of Jesus [and his family] had been found. He was saying how it needs to be opened to the public and everyone needs to "accept this". He said that all that mattered was the message Jesus brought to earth.

So if Jesus wasn't raised from the dead, what was his message and why does it matter?

    something about loving people.
    and it's all about hope.

    it matters like 11.11 matters.
[and jesus probably hates me for comparing him to 11.11 right now]

i remember reading the newspaper article that day in history. they found tombs with the names jesus and mary on it, and they said it could be anyone...but still. that's a good question, about his message.

i don't really know what it is, because we (my religion) don't believe that he came back. but we believe that he was a prophet sent from god to help people, like moses and muhommed. so in my opinion, i'm not sure what any of them were supposed to really deliver. hope, i guess?

    who knows.

This so called tomb of Jesus's family is speculation at best. You only have to accept it as someones theory, idea, but nothing else. We only know what we know about Jesus based on the witness of the Holy Spirit.

If he never rose from the dead, then christianity is based on a fundamental flaw.

I think his message was to love everyone. And to not judge people. Just be happy with who you are, and accept other people for who they are.

...but I could be totally wrong.

Good grief. No one in the class refuted this ridiculous assertion? Nobody brought up the findings of countless credible experts and archaeologist (many of whom were not Christian) who proved this completely absurd?
Did not one point out the multiple violations of teaching conduct performed in relation to religious discrimination?

I need to go to school. Over the last three years I've become convinced that nearly every student in American schools has lost the ability to think for themselves, come to their own conclusions based on unbiased and intelligent research, and become vocal about what they actually believe.

His message was love, peace, acceptance, etc... personally, I have always focused on his teachings and parables, rather than his death and resurrection. I follow Jesus because I feel that following in his ways helps me to lead a better, happier, more peaceful life, not because I think that Christianity is the only way to salvation.

I do think that what he "taught" was what we should pay attention to, not what happened to him.  But I also think the story of Him coming back from the dead, of rebirth, is an analogy for us all, suggesting that we can awake from what is essentially a waking death of forgetfulness and ignorance.  If we know ourselves, if we remember, if you will, who we are, we will "come alive" so to speak.  Enlightenment is the goal if we are to have our own easters.

@squeakytoad - I don't know if we agree on things or not, but my blog today is on american schools, and I tend to agree with you on their ability to stifle true thinking.
