  • Preparations for uni (at last)

       1. Medical check-up + chest x-ray
     - i took a strange pride in being pronounced to be "in good health". It was fun looking at my own x-ray; pleasing too to see such a clear perfect set of ribs. After watching House and Grey's Anatomy you get used to seeing lesions and masses on the x-rays. It came as a shock to see an x-ray of a perfectly healthy set of bones. And as for my BMI, HAH! All you people who say I'm skinny (actually it's just you NG brothers) my BMI's 18, which the doctor said was good. I told you "a Slurpee a day keeps the doctor away."

    2. Forms, forms,forms
    - thanks to my bestest buddy Jun Wei who printed out over 20 pages from the UPM website, I filled up everything I could. I'm just about done.

    3. Photos
    - UPM needs 12 passport-sized photos of me. If they had seen me before, I would understand. But they haven't, so I wonder why they need 12.

    4. Shopping!
    - This was fun. Vicki and I spent all Monday afternoon and evening shopping for formal wear. Yes, the dress code at local unis are pretty strict. Shirts, collared-Ts, pants, and proper shoes. I only own pants. All of a sudden I'm buying a whole new wardrobe. Shopping was tiring but enjoyable because (a) my parents gave me money to do it , (b) we knew specifically what we wanted and (c) we both were shopping for the same things. We would grab the same shirts in the same sizes, go into neighbouring fitting-rooms, then come out and compare. [All the while, Kuhanesh and Shamus were doing guy stuff just so we could shop : thank you guys]

    5. Telling people about it
    - finally I have the answer the the uni question. I've been updating everyone who asked me before this - and when you go to SSMC there are many - and it's such a relief to be able to stop the questions from recurring.

    6. Talking about it
    - Last Wednesday, the day the results came out, a group of us met up at Kuhanesh's house to exchange results - though news travelled fast via sms- and talk about it. Yvonne is off to Sabah, Huey Chyi to Sarawak, and Vicki to Terengganu while Gervanne, Kuhanesh and I are staying here. I'll miss you guys a LOT! After chatting over pizza and singing sad songs (notably Tears in Heaven and Leaving on a Jet Plane) we decided to watch Kung Fu Panda in One Utama. It's a cute show. Shi Fu is adorable! And Oogui was endearingly close to death. [Favourite scene - Shi Fu's roll of the eyes]

That's where I am in preparations so far.

Today I spent the afternoon accompanying Shiat Nee to IMU. She needed to drop off her application. One of the administrative staff was very helpful and brought us to see the labs and talk to one of the professors, Prof. Ong. He was nice. My sister uses a facial product he patented!

IMU is quite nice, though a bit small. The facilities look clean and new. The students were intimidating in their formal wear and labcoats...made us feel small. Jun Ai, are you intimidating now that you're a dentistry student? I should spring a visit on you when you're in class.

We bought sundaes after that and talked. Had a great time, Shiat Nee!
