  • In the middle of the night, last night, I was in the bathroom and I noticed the moon through the window (conveniently located right over the toilet).  I had to squint to look at it.  Once my eyes adjusted to her brightness, I noticed a large star to the lower right of her.  The star was quite big, a planet I suspect... Venus?  I don't know.  But... there was something else.  I thought I was seeing things, but I waited and it continued to happen with no pattern that I could discern.  A flash of light, like a camera flash but far in the distance.  Something like a white airplane light, but not a regular flashing.  It would flash on for a few seconds then off.  Then it would flash again a minute (or two) later, but of smaller or larger size.  And there was another light that would flash on the other side, though that one was substantially more dim.  Sometimes flashed together, more often they wouldn't... and not in a regular pattern.  And there was movement, though not travel.  Up a few notches would be one flash... the next one might be in the same spot or it might be a notch or two lower or higher than the last flash.  Again, no pattern.  Fully awake by now, I stood at my bathroom window for maybe ten minutes, watching.  I tried to locate my binoculars but it was impossible to find them in the dark house and I dared not turn on the light.  Ed wakes so easily.
I could not discern any logical explanation for the lights.  Way too high up, and yet still very visible and large.  It was not a plane of any kind that I've every seen, and the movement was jumping in place.
It has been on  my mind all day.  Mysteries... I love'em.
Does anyone know of any websites that might analyze the night sky for specific dates?  Does such a thing exist?  I'd love to find out if that was a planet.

Beyond this (normal) weirdness, things are smoothing out here.  Still no camera, but the girls are in school and were very happy to be going back.  I was able to get a lot of family/home business sorted out today.  Tomorrow I hit the grocery store and my sister is coming to visit in the afternoon.

I hope this year has begun by being kind to all of you.
    Good night.

That was me, actually.  In my stolen flying saucer.  I just took the thing for a joyride after they finished the anal probe. Sorry if I scared you.

That's too cool! Satellites, maybe? Although I don't really know what two satellites would be doing so close to the moon. hmm.

Or, you know, I'll bet the aliens were out last night...enjoying the super bright moon. Maybe getting a little lunar tanning in, eh? :D

i was going to make a smart ass comment about a ufo because of the hoopla around o'hare about something that was spotted but then i realized i would sound like a complete geek!  lol

That is so neat! I am really starting to wonder what it was - you've sparked some interest in me! At first I thought that maybe they were Satellites but Satellites move.
I have no idea! I'll search around for a website!

    Have a great day.

It sounds really facinating! you are public you know?

Yes... I know. Did I mention the girls' names and not see it? That's my biggest thing. I'm trying to train myself not to use them.
Thanks for helping me keep an eye out.

that's strange.. i often wonder about life on other planets, or it could had been a satellite?? i love the unknown world.

Probably a satelliete or even the space station. Marv keeps track of when stuff will be visible in our area. Try going to www.heavensabove.com

I don’t think I necessarily believe in UFOS are things of the sort. I believe most things can be explain, but there is so much out there we don't understand. But it is interesting to note there was a news article about a "ufo" sighting over Chicago last night on aol.com :)

oops...nevermind.  It was in Chicago in the fall.  Oh, well...it would be neat if you found out something about it.

If you type "Brown Mountain Lights" into Google you will find maybe something similar. I realize you are not anywhere near Brown Mountain, but I saw those lights this summer. Maybe they have them in New Jersey.

could have been the International space station..  it has huge panels for catching solar rays.. I mean each one is bigger than a bus.  When the station is rotating the light reflects off them,  like a mirror bouncing the light -  there are a number of these on the station.  some bigger on the top ,  some smaller at the base.

www.delicast.com  - look for NASA TV - click the black writing.

I've seen some bizzare things in the sky recently.. usually I see "slow moving stars"  you have to stare at the sky for twenty minutes to notice the ones that are moving independant to the rest.  they usually move in one direction..  possibly satellites.. but I saw one recently that did a U-turn in the sky.  Not a plane.
