~I read a lot of linkish sites on bloglines so I don't remember which one pointed me toward this site, but it is wonderful site if you love to peruse old (like Civil War old) photographs. I have been addicted to it and am currently working my way through photographers. I started with Dorothea Lange.
~I am still trying to come up with a palette for our bedroom. I am usually so good with deciding things like this, but I don't want to screw up the bedroom. We probably won't ever redecorate it in our lifetime (at least anytime in the next twenty years, I guarantee it). I really like the brown/icy blue combination that I see everywhere... but... I see it everywhere. I'm afraid to go with colors so trendy because I'm betting I'll be thinking "ugly" in five years. Anyone seen a color combination recently that knocks their socks off? I'd love a description or link.
~I am reading too many books at the same time. Well, not at the exact same time, but I'm a one book at a time kinda gal. I am into too many right now. Still working on Pillars of the Earth, which has lost my interest for the time being. I am several chapters into a coffee and tea book that a vendor gave us, and it is interesting but doesn't enthrall me. And I just started, but am very much into, A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle.
~The next book I am dying to begin reading is, The Third Jesus, by Deepak Chopra. I am not allowing myself to even crack it open until I finish all the other reading. It's killing me.
~I am going to blog a lot about "A New Earth."
~Still looking for a belly dancing class. I am the great procrastinator.
Pillars of the Earth took me a long time to read too. And I got World Without End as part of a two-fer deal, that one is taking me forever as well.
ooh yes. i'd love to hear your thoughts on a new earth. i've been toying with the idea of buying it but am not convinced. i just bought the tao of pooh (i'm behind the times, what can i say?)
i was just thinking the other day how much a like brown and red together (with just a splash of turquoise for accent).
*I* like! *I* like! (grrrrrr! i hate when i do that)
I love chocolate brown and "regular" blue, in loved it for over 7 years and never get tired of seeing it... its my favourite colour combination in the world.
I really like sage green and khaki. I've also thrown in a tiny bit of lavender, too. I like the sage/khaki combo because while you can use feminine patterns, it's not too girly so the male counterpart feels like he belongs, too. =) I've got a khaki comforter, khaki husband pillow, sage bed pillows, sage and lavendar shams, and sage and white lamp shade. Sounds like a lot of sage going on, but it's not since it's mostly in accent pieces. Anyways good luck and be sure to post pictures when you decide!
You could try decorating the large objects in neutrals, and choosing to express a color palette in your accessories.
If you'd like to go light blue and brown here a few inspiration links:
I am very interesting in the New Earth book, at first I thought it was little out there but do blog about it. Third Jesus? I thought there was only one ???
I love reading a good book. I am kinda addicted to Jodi Picoult novels
If I had a dorm room in college and a poster of that picture, it totally would have been hanging over my bed.
The thrid one in line looks like Mom-mom.
I'm going to second the sage, khaki, lavendar - that's what I'd redo my room in if I were starting over. I'd also add some chocolate brown accents too and make it just a little more masculine. In fact, I would probably use chocolate in place of khaki and make khaki an accent color along the lines of the lavendar. I have a chocolate brown comforter right now that is my favorite thing in the world.
One of my aunts does a lot of genealogy type stuff and so she has tons of old photos that my sister and I look through when we go North every summer. It's really interesting to see how different a bunch of pictures of the same person can appear based on the photographer's perspective.
I think the 3rd one looks like Drew Barrymore!
My bedroom is sage green and khaki also. I would give anything to be able to have light colored sheets and comforter, but it's not very "man friendly", if you know what I mean! The sage is very warming and comforting.
Have fun decorating!
I agree with sage/khaki--but my choice for the "pop" color would be a RICH deep purple rather than lavender. That's what I have right now and I love it...and it doesn't take much purple to make the point.
I recently did a major re-do of my bedroom and chose the chocolate brown/icy blue look, which was quite a drastic change from the dark red walls and country theme I had going on in there before. I went to Ikea one afternoon and for $300, had myself a complete bedroom remodel and I love it so much I can't even tell you. That combination of colors is just so soothing that it makes my bedroom feel like a spa or something... just a place I want to be. It's easy to match and the color inspires you to minimize the clutter, so there's more breathing room in there. I'm a big fan and I don't know if the color combo will be out of style anytime soon, but I know I've painted and decorated every room in my house in a variety of colors, and my bedroom is by far my favorite.
Good luck with your decision!
I visited one of my friend's houses for the first time yesterday. It was beautiful. They had really rich yellow, burnt orange and a deep red on various walls in the downstairs. I don't know if a bedroom would be too small for that amount of color, but I loved it, and I wished my house was painted that way.
i like the blue/brown combo but it is sort of a trend right now. martha stewart actually has some pretty good color combos on her paint sample cards at lowes. if you're looking for something that's going to stay for a long time, i'd suggest going for a light shade of grey with possibly a blueish hue to it. grey is surprisingly versatile and you can easily find bedding/curtains that will pop with that sort of background.
that's a link to a martha stewart blue/brown bedroom. i don't actually like martha stewart but she does have some pretty cool paint color themes. if the color is going to stay a long time i suggest you go with something that's a little flexible since you'll probably get new bedding before the walls get another color. but ultimately, the bedroom is your sanctuary so you should go with something you love.

I see that you are reading A New Earth. Perhaps you'd like to join one of my discussion groups on the subject. You can go to my blog to see my posts. I also see that you're planning on reading Deepak's newest book. Me, too! I went to a book signing/talk with him last month and got my signed copy. Once I also finish the class I'm doing with Oprah and Eckhart Tolle, I hope to turn my attention to it. Are you participating in the online web class? It truly has been a wonderful experience for me.
