  • J. was sleeping with me last night and around midnight she woke me up because she was vomiting, in her sleep, all over the bed.  I cleaned her (I don't even think she woke up) and the bed and then tucked back in to sleep.  She had not shown any signs of illness earlier in the day, she didn't have any fever and she seemed fine afterward so I figured she ate something that soured her stomach.  An hour later, she's up again... this time throwing up on the floor.  I cleaned up her and the bed again (thank goodness I have several sets of sheets for our bed) and moved the trash can next to her, just in case.  An hour later, again with the throwing up but she aimed and hit the can.  Then she was fine.  Finally, around 4am, we both fell back to sleep.

By the second time she was sick, I had already decided to keep her home from school today, because I would not appreciate it if my child was sitting next to some other child who had been barfing all the previous night.  She seemed fine in the morning, and other than a nap in the afternoon, she's been fine all day.  While she napped, I did hear her gag like she had done the night before, but she was fine... not sick, but it was not a regular cough I heard.  I'm going to send her tomorrow, because there is no reason not to do so, but I can't deny that the whole thing has me puzzled.  It is just really strange for her to be sick so many times for no apparent reason.
And of course, I've been a zombie all day, when my intention was to shop for a dress.  Didn't happen.

I would really like to be going away on sabbatical.  I could use one-woman vacation.  Next year, maybe.

Thanks for all the sweet things you all said about the girls' gymnastics.  They are growing up so fast and most of you have watched them the whole way for the most part.  Thanks for that.
    Good night.

Oh, my sweet banana.  I hope she's okay/

She's totally fine... that's the weird thing.  No reason, just barf.

Poor Baby Girl...she must have eaten something or over exerted herself during the day. Glad she is better.

My daughter did that when she was little and we were camping one weekend. Just in the middle of the night... hurl... and it was done. She never woke up prior to vomiting. The next day she was right as rain. I was thinking at the time that it may have been all of the running around and the heat from the day. I really just don't know what had happened.

Might want to check for GERD just in case. I know if I don't sleep with my head elevated enough I have the gagging feeling.

I have always wanted to take a two-girl vacation with you ... like, to some awesome spa.

I hope J. continues to feel fine. The stomach flu has been going around my school, but since J. doesn't have a fever or anything...that is odd.

could she have a mild food allergy to something??? not that I should talk I get into something at the wrong time especially vitamins and I get sick then I am fine

Aw.. I hope J is all better and it was just a 24 hour bug or something.. that, and i also hope you get to go dress shopping and you post a pic of what you get

You looked so beautiful in that pic of you and J in the car that you posted the other day..

Oh no.  I hope J will enjoy a more peaceful night tonight.  Could there be a physical reason she gags in her sleep?

Best to take her to the doctor, of course. Forget the could be's. Best to get an opinion ... even a 2nd one

  • Mystic_In_Training

Would food poisoning have done it?  Or a 24 hour flu bug or something?  I've had bugs where I throw up for half a day and then I'm completely fine...

  • eFairy

Sounds like stomach flu to me.

When my daughter was elementary school age, she would have similar episodes of vomiting during the night into the mornings.  Of course I kept her home from school, and let her sleep.  But almost every time, by the time she woke back up around 11 or 12, she would feel fine and not vomit anymore.  We went through this for a few years.  She had many tests at Children's Hospital with a GI specialist and they never found anything wrong.  She had UGI, CT scans, stool and blood tests and nothing.  Food allergies were thought of, but you know how kids that age are--they always eat the same things and the vomiting wasn't occuring consistantly after eating specific foods, and we never came up with anything.  Her doc said that it could be "migraine abdomen", similar to migraine headaches.  Thankfully, she grew out of it.  Hope this won't be a recurring thing for Julia!
