Minor news update
Jim called this morning to let me know he had his first real job offer. It involves working with an air traffic radar facility in Jamaica, New York. As you may know, my two places on the east coast that I was the least interested in living were Washinging DC area and NY, NY area. I think Jamaica is probably well within the NY, NY area.
It would certainly be convenient as far as family is concerned. My sister lives in Staten Isand, and I have various extended family members in the area, and my mother does go up there a couple of times a year to visit. The family factor not withstanding, I don't really want to live up there. Although I'm not a big fan of new construction, I do like my houses to be younger than I am. I like the roads to be designed after the advent of the horseless carriage. I want to be able to shop without having to pay a toll both ways.
It's only the first offer, I'm sure there will be others. Maybe some of them will be in places I want to live. I only mention this opportunity because I told you all that I would let you know what was going on with Jim's job search as soon as I knew anything.
