Snow day
Virginia Beach is one of those places where school is cancelled for a half inch of snow. We had considerably more than that, enough that our street was plowed, but not so much that it's keeping my husband from driving around.
Upon seeing snow, my children each undertook a personal mission. Sophia whipped out her Girl Scout handbooks and started work on the Frosty Fun badge. Gordon built a snowman as tall as he is. The snow was good for that. Benjamin was only interested in eating the snow. I found some clean snow and topped it with strawberry syrup, and he was satisfied. The biggest child of all, namely my husband Jim, decided to demonstrate his excellent skill at making and throwing snowballs at the teenagers that live on our street. My personal role in this evolution is to keep the hot chocolate coming and to find all the snow clothes that only get worn once a year. My kids keep trying to lure me outside, but I know they have an ulterior motive - my broad butt makes a really good target.
I did wander out a few times, to help put arms on the snowman (this is excellent packing snow) and to admire Sophia's snow painting (water with food coloring in a spray bottle). However, at the first sign of those frozen flying spheres, I darted back inside.
I don't think it will last long, as I already see signs of melting. Maybe I should go out, just so I remember why I like living in a southern state.
