  • Snow day

Virginia Beach is one of those places where school is cancelled for a half inch of snow.  We had considerably more than that, enough that our street was plowed, but not so much that it's keeping my husband from driving around.

Upon seeing snow, my children each undertook a personal mission.  Sophia whipped out her Girl Scout handbooks and started work on the Frosty Fun badge.  Gordon built a snowman as tall as he is.  The snow was good for that.  Benjamin was only interested in eating the snow.  I found some clean snow and topped it with strawberry syrup, and he was satisfied.  The biggest child of all, namely my husband Jim, decided to demonstrate his excellent skill at making and throwing snowballs at the teenagers that live on our street.  My personal role in this evolution is to keep the hot chocolate coming and to find all the snow clothes that only get worn once a year.  My kids keep trying to lure me outside, but I know they have an ulterior motive - my broad butt makes a really good target.

I did wander out a few times, to help put arms on the snowman (this is excellent packing snow) and to admire Sophia's snow painting (water with food coloring in a spray bottle).  However, at the first sign of those frozen flying spheres, I darted back inside.

I don't think it will last long, as I already see signs of melting.  Maybe I should go out, just so I remember why I like living in a southern state.

  • that most be a fun day your family is having! i whised we had as much snow here... and my exams would be cancelled. unfortunatly we only have the freezing weather and hardly 1 mm of snow... still I think that even with a blizard courses would not be cancelled
  • The snow missed Memphis. :o(
  • Your story almost makes me wish there was snow here, too. Almost.
  • No snow here yet this year.  Just a few flakes flittering hither and yon, leaving a light dusting - just enough to create havoc at rush hour on the highways.  My kids prayed for snow, but alas it was back to school today.  Hurrah!  LOL!!
  • haha, last year when I went down to va for the first time to meet steve they got like not even an inch of snow and everything got closed, I had to laugh at that cause they will hardly close things down here if we get 4 feet of snow. I was talking to a girl that lives in south carolina yesterday morning that I thought was online awfully early to be a 15 year old girl but it turns out she got up cause she was supposed to go to school but they had half an inch of snow so it was closed.  I think if I ever have kids I'll move down south so they can get days off when it snows (plus I like it down there).  Although I do like it here cause we get a lot of snow, oh I dont know where I want to live when I "grow up". hehe, have fun with your snow and watch out for those snowballs, they can be deadly.
