My husband doesn't watch television. Yes, he does sit on the couch, facing the television, while the television is on, but if you ask him what he is watching, he will tell you that he is not watching anything. He is either channel checking, or killing some time while waiting for something else to happen, but he is definitely not watching tv. This is particularly aggravating not because I care one whit for his viewing habits, but because while he is telling you in great detail about what is is doing that isn't really watching television, he isn't answering the real question - what is playing on the television.
With enough practice, one might think to not ask what he is watching, but what is playing. However, that will backfire if one is at all interested in what they see on the screen, because in order to prove how uninterested he is in whatever may be playing, he will change the channel. Sometimes he will change it just because I've entered the room and sat down. I almost think he is deliberately trying to drive me away. There is no sense to it - I'm not the sort who talks while watching tv, I sit quietly and enjoy the show.
Why can't two people sit and watch television together?
