REPENTANCE
Does repentance sound like a harsh word to you? Is it something that
you'd rather not think about, but ignore? I believe that repentance is
one of the most critical parts of our walk with the Lord. Not only our
walk with the Lord, but our very salvation. You might be thinking -
"Well, Jesus said that we just have to believe in him to be saved." Is
that all that he said? Have you forgotten what he said in Matthew 4:17?
"From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the
kingdom of heaven is at hand."
Notice here that this was the first thing that Jesus chose to preach
on. If Jesus chose this as his first message, don't you think it was
vitally important? Someone might say - "I believe that all my sins are
forgiven and God gives grace to me, so I don't worry about repenting
when I sin."
And what does God have to say to people with that attitude?
Romans 6:1-2
1
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may
abound?
2
God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
I would say that's pretty clear. Wouldn't you? You might be thinking -
"Does that mean that as a Christian, we will never sin?"
No, it's not saying that. But it does relate to repentance. When we do
sin, we repent.
I John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Ive seen people try to get saved without repenting and they usually end
up falling away from their faith and getting angry and blame God for
the problems in their life.
Does repentance still sound like a harsh word to you that you try to
ignore? I hope and pray not.
Acts 17:30 - But now, God commandeth all men everywhere to repent.

I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THE "REPENTANCE" THING, ((LARRY)), IN THAT INITIALLY I THOUGHT YOU HAD TO CRY, ET CETERA TO TRULY BE SORRY IN WHICH YOU WERE THEN FORGIVEN! JUST NEVER KNEW IF THERE WAS LIKE A RULE FOR KNOWING WHEN YOU TRULY HAD REPENTED. I REALIZE IT'S MORE OF A SINCERITY THING ACTUALLY, TRULY BEING SORRY. SOMETIMES I DON'T FEEL LIKE I'M SORRY ENOUGH IF THAT MAKES SENSE. I WISH THERE WAS SOME KIND OF METER LIKE THING WE COULD USE TO SHOW US WHEN WE HIT THE RIGHT REMORSEFULNESS! SADLY, THERE ISN'T, JUST FAITH I GUESS!
GREAT POST, AS ALWAYS!
LOVE, CHERYL
Good to hear from you Larry...was a surprise to get that certificate!

Yes , to replace self with Jesus we must push pride out of the way knowing we can not save ourselves and repent in order to trust on and follow Jesus our Lord . It is more than an emotional prayer it is a true change in direction in response to Holy Spirit showing our lack in ablility to led ourselves in God's rightousness and that without Jesus we will live and die lost . When we submit to this conviction and allow God to work salvation within us then He gives life to our dead spirit .
Thanks for this post Larry, I pray Mr. Howard will be open to the gosple as he reads the Case for Christ .
God bless !

To repent means to turn away from. Not only is it us feeling remorse or sorry, it means that we turn away from what we are doing. If we are sinning by going East, then to repent would mean that we would have to turn and go West. It's like when some friends are doing something bad and you see what they are doing and you don't want to get caught up in their actions, you go the other way. When you look at it like that and know that God only has our best interests in mind, then repentance to me just means that I'm getting back on His path and turning my back to the wrong one.
ryc: LOL!!! I have!!!!
Amen, I am learning to be very quick at repentence for I don't want to leave any way open for the enemy.

You quote Romans 6:1-2....it's interesting how people think grace is a licence to sin. In fact, Paul says in Titus 2:11-14: "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works."
How've you been, old sport??
In Christ, and for the gospel of the kingdom,
Brett

I just made a post on repentance, come by and check it out.
It looks like you're trying to beat me at my own game: all comments, no posts.
@mr_jargon - Yeah. I started to cut way back on the amount of times I posted and now I don't feel inspired to post anymore. I only comment on other people's blogs.
