Thousand Years of Good Prayer in SF Now!

Now Playing at the Clay Theatre
Director Wayne Wang In Person Sat, 9/27 at 7:00pm!

Mr. Shi (Henry O) is a widower and a retired man from Beijing. When his only daughter Yilan (Faye Yu) is divorced, he decides to visit her in Spokane, Washington where she works as a librarian. His intention is to stay with her until he helps her recover from the trauma. But Yilan is not interested in his plan to rescue her marriage and reconstruct her life. Disappointed but not discouraged, Mr. Shi explores the town and meets an old woman, Madam (Vida Ghahremani), who fled the Iranian Revolution. Neither Mr. Shi nor Madam speak English well, but by gesturing and talking in their own tongues, Mr. Shi and Madam start a rare friendship, in which they find momentary haven from the world of lies they have to weave to keep themselves hopeful. Directed by Wayne Wang (Chinese Box, The Joy Luck Club), based on the short story by screenwriter Yiyun Li. Official Web Site

It's been a trip.

OK. I just typed this out and my computer here at work is retarded.

So i haven't been on Xanga is a really long time. From the looks of this and what i've been reading i think Xanga's readership has been going down. They have this campaign with JCPenny and 4 Asian Pacific American YouTube stars. I think that's pretty sad, but i guess whatever helps them get what their goal is.

I Graduated fron SFSU with a BA in Asian American Studies. whoo hoo! The question that comes after that statement is, "what are you going to do with that?" The answer, nothing as of right now. I got into the Licensed Vocational Nursing Program at CCSF and that will be 3 semesters of my life. After that i'll be applying once again to the RN program and hopefully i'll get in, so that will take up 2 more years of my life. I'll still try to help out with the SFIAAFF each year with whatever i can do. That will probably be the extent of my degree, just grassroots on all the events that are happening in San Francisco.

This summer after graduation I went to Singapore and Malaysia with my mom and sister to visit family. It was kind of my idea before jumping back into school. One last trip. It is sooo freaking hot there. They totally need AC's everywhere or else they would burn. The malls there are all packed at any time of the day, it's crazy! Went shopping but we didn't buy anything. Visiting family was good, its been so long since we were there, they finally get to see us as adults. The big Americans that we are compared to them, they are all so petite.

Since we came back i've just been working non-stop at the hospital. Getting all the hours i can before school starts. Been to a lot of shows this summer and eating too much food. Sitting at this desk has not helped that problem. I'm kind of glad to be going back to school, at least i'll be getting up and walking around.

School starts on Monday, should be exciting. Hasn't really hit me yet, but if i remember about coming back to this site i'll tell you all about the strange things that are going to happen to me in this program.
