Today is the day we close on our new house - leading to the statement we've really done it now or WHAT HAVE WE DONE?  The main house is somewhere between 1400 and 1600 square feet, basement the same, but the floor plan - well - we won't be moving for a long time because this house needs work.  It is a 1921 bungalow that bad things were done to in the 50's, 60's and 70's.  There is also the unfortunate tile incident in the basement - half of which is tiled in pink tile including 5'6" up the walls.  This is not the only tile- pretty much every horizontal surface has been tiled, they must have gotten a deal.

This is allowing John to have full employment, drawing, planning and then doing most of the work, except of course for the part involving a bulldozer to make the floors of the basement the same height (currently 3 levels, some of which yielding ceilings of under 6 and a half feet.

The house is located in North Berkeley - 1 block from a library, 3 or so blocks in all other directions to really nice shopping, eating, swimming.  the lot is twice is big as we currently have, a nice gently terraced down slope with an eastern exposure.  The yard is not totally overgrown, but we will be doing battle with black berries and ivy all around - it is hard to see the house the way the landscaping is devised - these people evidentially liked their privacy.

If you want to see pictures of this project - click on photo at the top of this page and use your imagination- I haven't figured out how to put pictures on this page yet - but I will.
