The Best of Spike Jones, Vol. 1
By Spike Jones
see relatedapparently xanga is letting me trial PREMIUM again... i'm not sure i can handle all these choices. i tried to make it legible.
so last night, Kevin and I went to target, babies 'r' us, and nebraska furniture mart (nfm)to take a look see at all the products that the market is trying to swindle new parents in to thinking they need for their children....and not at discount prices. i give babies 'r' us props for having the best selection, then again, this is their specialty, so they really shouldn't fall short. after all the shopping and looking around, we actually came home with.................................
a piece of paper. it was a receipt for a new dining set from nfm. Kevin is going to pick it up on Monday. very exciting. our child will eventually need somewhere to eat his/her dinner, right?
a special note to Emery and whomever else at the Wright/Woody household knows about this: Kevin and i had a late dinner at samuel adams. it was delicious.
but seriously, we did stay on task and picked out a few items that we will buy probably in the next few months. and all you picture lovers can put your minds at ease because another purchase made yesterday by my technologically advanced husband was a digital camera. so we are all set to record every single moment of upcoming baby encounters, visiting friends and family, and anything else that we might photograph. MOOO HA HA HA HA HA!!! (in reflection, yesterday turned out to be a fairly expensive Wednesday.)
lovely weather yesterday, zero humidity...until this am around 1ish. stormy mornings are perfect for sleeping in. so long as the little one does not hop on my bladder...ha ha.
and as an added feature today due to no reason at all i have entitled this next section
Inside Grace's Mind: (or for Kylee, Ann, and Connie- Grace's Inner Dialogue)
one thing that i still have not gotten used to is living in Kansas. it's just fine out here, but everytime i hear the news on tv at work i always wonder why they're talking about the royals (i'm sure a lot of people wonder that), or the chiefs, or Kansas city weather, or Kansas city traffic. i really do have to pause and think, "it's because you're out "here" now, not illinois." it's been almost 2 years now and i'm still orienting myself. weird.
alrighty, back to laundry.
but first, a note to Candace: you'll probably get voted "most likely to wake up with her hair looking perfectly styled and in place"
and verity: this xanga post brought to you by the letter "H"
ok, now we're done.

I know what you mean about orienting; even though we grew up in the KC area, being back up here is weird now, and John and I both have experiences where we find ourselves thinking like we're still in Springfield, then "Oh, yeah, that's right, we're here now!"
Lovey post m'daughter!
The letter "H" is back now- your dad told me to pick up the keyboard, turn it upside-down and shake all the crumbs out of it- and it works! Your dad is a high tech kind of guy!
FYI- I still am having trouble with Illinois! I don't know if I subconsciously think that I am still an Iowan or a Missourian (Lexington, Joplin). I think that I am KC oriented, still. That's where you three older girls were born, and we have a lot of associations and relatives there still. We have lived in Brighton for 21 YEARS now, but I still have difficulty in figuring out that Jerseyville is mostly west and not directly north of us.
Pictures-by all means- I am counting on it, otherwise I will be at your house every other day.
Of all of those things that they try to get new parents to buy (my dad thought a video baby monitor would be cool), we have fallen in love with our baby papasan, one of those little seats that vibrates or rocks or bounces the baby. I put Camden in his while I'm in the shower, and it rocks him back and forth and he usually falls asleep. It's great! We're also fans of the mirror that lets you see the baby in the backseat - ours lights up and plays music - functional and fun for baby!!
Keep two words in mind as you shop. Garage Sale. Not so much to buy things, but that is where just about everything you'll purchase will go, unless you hand it down to others. The sooner the better if you asked me. It has only been two years since we got rid of our potty training chair. We kind of kept it stored to hand down, & then every time we'd get to thinking about who could use it, they would already have one. Much like LRH's earlier comments, we're kind of in "get rid of the extra stuff" mode, although we could definately do more in that area.
thanx for dropping those words on my site. they sound familiar.
and pretty good words they are.
grace, i hope this day treats you well.
Also, I enjoyed shouting out the car window to you while driving along Tennesee Street on Thursday night.
i can't wait for the little one... he/she will be adorable no matter what...
i assure you that my hair is not always so picture perfect as you witnessed, it behaved especially for you...
love you grace!
candace.
i wish you knew what day the baby was coming....that way we could skip school and see it.
i wish there was some other term for your baby. not he she or it...............how bout we call the baby.....
baby number one? or number one for short. or even one. ones a nice name.

Maybe you'll wake up one morning and realize you aren't in Kansas anymore; it was all just a bad dream. You know I just want my Kansan sisters back here again.
Two lists for you--top 5 least useful baby items (for me, this is not the same for everyone): 1) Baby powder 2) Cloth bibs--even the cute ones that match outfits seem to just get in the way. It's easier to just keep a burp cloth or small blanket nearby; as an additional plus your baby won't have to wear his spitup or drool. 3) Medicine dropper (most medications will come with one, or your dr will give you a syringe for prescriptions 4) Baby oil and baby oil gel (maybe I will use this in the winter??) 5) Snugli infant carrier (Cal hates being strapped into it and is constantly rubbing his large head against a strap or bumping his head on my body). My favorite 5 baby items: 1) The Boppy pillow, of course. I could just go on and on about it. 2) A cotton quilt to put on the floor for playtime (Ken and Willa gave me my favorite one!) 3) Floor gym with lots of danglies, such as Fisher Price Ocean Wonders KickNCrawl, that can keep a 2.5-3.5 month old amused when nothing else will do. I also give it credit for Calvin rolling over from back to belly at 3 months. 4) A travel system, because it's so easy to just snap the carseat into the car base (or use it without a base), snap it onto most shopping carts, or snap it onto the stroller, all without buckling and unbuckling the baby. 5) Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It really leaves Desitin and friends in the dust.
Calvin's favorite toys (and his review) that you might overlook on your registry: 1) Sunchips Harvest Cheddar chips bag. "Mmm, crinkly and shiny!" 2) Capri Sun drink packaging. "Mmm, also shiny!" 3) Red and white checked napkin. "Wild fun!" 4) Crisp sheets with flowers on them. "Entertaining and fun to scratch!" 5) A dog. "Love them! Must touch them! Can't take my eyes off'em! Get me one, Mom!" (NO).
Desitin is bad, bad, bad. It made diaper rash worse for my babies (yes I kept giving it just one more chance) For us A&D ointment the winner!
Giving a holler out to Samuel Adams! oh yeah! Aunt B. and Gpa Woody.
as Curly used to say
