I haven't listened to this in forever...

Ack!  Stress!

I am currently wandering in what shall be  not-so-affectionately known as "packing purgatory."  I have the incredible challenge before me of packing for five months in two bags, with no assurance whatsoever that I am not forgetting something...

And I don't have very long to do it.  Everybody and their third cousin wants to  to hook up before I go, which means at least one trip into the Cities and enough gas money for five mochaccinos (tan triste!).

I made a trip to Target today and dealt with moderate business and snarky dressing room assistant (I refrained from making a "life is worse in Thailand you know" comment), but got the bulk of my stuff taken care of.  Still on the docket:

-A cheap pair of tennis shoes that can get destroyed
-Assorted cosmetics
-Protien shakes, saltines, peanut butter, and other non perishable food stuffs.  Especially since I'll be on a California team-- notorious for a shall we say, foo foo menu. (i.e. celery sticks and rationed Pringles)
-A few more pairs of scrubs
-A big Nalgene (perhaps in pink)
-A windbreaker
-A small fan
-Sunscreen (Banana Boat!  That stuff smells awesome!)
-Board shorts
-Pens and mechanical pencils (For the journal I am determined to write in religiously...thank you Jill my dear for providing the journal!)
-Work on the camera situation.

Yeesh...this is getting expensive.  I guess I'll worry about it tomorrow.

So, I'm thinking ahead for (actually real ones that arrive in the mail) postcards/letters as well.  If anyone (and I mean anyone, whether I know you well or not, this is a long trip) wants to get a genuine piece of Meredith correspondence from the Land of Eternal Spring (or possibly the Houston airport since I'm cheap ), send your address to meredith_schultz@hotmail.com  Do not post it as a comment...that's not safe people.  If you want to be included in my weekly/monthly/whenever-I-get-to-it updates, drop me a note at the some place...

Adidas my loverly readers, off to count the sock supply...

I feel your pain. When I go away for a weekend it's hard for me to pack in two bags. And I always forget something and think to myself, why didn't I just pack that too?? Five months....how difficult it must be!! I remember reading in one of your past posts (please forgive my forgetfullness) but where are you going again?

Meredith, by now you're a professional world traveler!  (Ever tried packing in gallon sized plastic bags?  Just another trick o' the thrade!)  Oh, don't forget the antibacterieal hand sanitizer - that stuff has saved me on many occassions.

Oh, I've done that...roll up the clothes, put them in plastic grocery bags, and squeeze out the air to make them smaller...or put everything in one big garbage bag in case my backpack gets rained on.

Hope your packing goes well, Merry, and that you bring all you need! A girl who lived in South America for a while told me that bandanas were a life saver for her. She didn't have many chances to shampoo her long blonde hair. I bet you'd look cute in a bandana. :)

From much personal experience in third world countries, I highly recommend your own role of toilet paper.....

*fold and then roll...unless you prefer the wrinkle variety in clothing. :) Have you seen that Purell antibacterial stuff that you can use without water? Happy packing!

A good dose of calmness and peace is also a necessity of the highest order when embarking on a long trip. I hope you get it and I hope you have an awesome trip, Meredith.

P.S. Sing to yourself. At all times. Under your breath if you have to. It wards off sunburn.
