Seventeen minutes remain in my election break.
Yes, we have an election break. Only at Patrick Henry folks.
I did not spend the last four days campaigning, preferring to stay confined in my dorm room or nestled by the fire at Market Street. I've finished researching for my US History paper on Martha Washington (thus fueling my preoccupation with first ladies), and slogged through an ungodly number of biology definitions (scherencyma anyone?)
Sunday was sublime. Samantha and I brought lunch (and dinner) back to the room, shut the blinds, and watched all six hours of Pride and Prejudice. Girl time. Oh yes.
I'd also like to announce my recent engagement to Mr. Darcy.
After a run-in with fate last Saturday (in the form of Carolyn) I'm now the House Manager for Eden Troupe's Macbeth. If you've ever had a burning desire to usher, take tickets, or serve refreshments, you know who to talk to. I'm also seeking a classy young lady to fill the position of hostess for all three nights. If interested, inquire within. _____________________________________
Why I Love Johnson's A History of the American People
Henry Clay was in our history reading this week. Interesting fellow...
"Henry's face was a compromise put together by a committee and was distinguished by an enormously wide mouth, like a slash. He used this mouth often, to eat and drink prodigiously, to shape his superbly soft, melodic, caressing voice, and to do an extraordinary amount of kissing. As he put it, 'kissing is like the presidency, it is not to be sought and not to be declined.' His opponents said his prodigiously wide mouth allowed him an unfair advantage: 'the ample dimensions of his kissing apparatus enabled him to completely rest one side of it while the other was on active duty. If women had the vote, Clay would have experienced no difficulty in becoming president every time he chose to run."
