| | Okay, so, I haven't posted in a while because, well, no one is on here anymore, but whatever. Today, I bring you another typical matt-nash style post. I need someone to notice how cool I am, so I post about the cool stuff I'm into. You, the reader, then realize how cool the stuff I'm into is and how cool I am as well. You should then get into said cool thing, so we can both be cool and talk about said cool thing and how cool we are. So, I give you: COOL THINGS OF AUGUST! (this will also be appearing as a normal column in Modern Miss magazine, so...wow, I'm cool...)
COOL THING OF AUGUST #1

Veronica Mars Second Season DVD (out Aug. 22) If you don't know, Veronica Mars is (no spoliers):
The second season of Veronica Mars showcases the series' crackling-sharp writing and topnotch acting of star Kristen Bell and the rest of the cast. Veronica still struggles with the class wars in sunny Neptune, Calif., trying to find a balance between high school, love, helping her dad as a private eye, and doing the right thing. The ongoing thread of season 2 is the aftermath of a horrifying tragedy, and as Veronica and dad Keith try to find out what caused it, mysteries only compound. Shifty Sheriff Lamb, town powerbrokers, and various high-school cliques seem to undermine Veronica at every turn. Thankfully, Veronica has more chutzpah than Phillip Marlowe, and the side-of-the-mouth one-liners to match: "Well, actually," Veronica says dryly to a bad guy, "despite popular opinion, you really can't beat the truth out of someone." Some of the show's broad strokes echo the stellar Buffy the Vampire Slayer, yet Bell's Veronica doesn't need the supernatural to tackle a challenge. She's a real girl, conflicted, prickly, lovesick, yearning, sometimes even scared. As Veronica tries to solve the mystery, she must also handle her own heartbreaks, and the moral stumbles of those closest to her. Happily, she's got a great best pal, Wallace (the effervescent Percy Daggs III), and possibly the coolest, most understanding TV dad ever (Enrico Colantoni). The boxed set includes 22 episodes (many with deleted scenes), a behind-the-scenes mini-doc, a cute gag reel, and a short profile film, Veronica Mars: Not Your Average Teen Detective. You can say that again. --A.T. Hurley

COOL THIINGS 4-6
Debut Album from Persephone's Bees! Finally! (Aug. 29)

60s Pychedelic Pop and Freakbeat made modern. I've only heard 2 songs off this album, "Nice Day" and "City of Love", but they're both incredibley good amazing! You can hear them on www.persephoneesbees.com . Make sure to listen for Angelina starting her Vespa up at the end of "Nice Day". A nice touch.
The Grates Debut Album! (Aug. 29)

They came out with an E.P about a year ago that I liked alot. I don't know what took so long to get an album out, but I'm happy it's finally coming. Loud, innovative, agressive, punch-you-in-the-lung punk rock and lo-fi noise. I love it.
LILY ALLEN! "alright, still" Came out Aug 1. Poppy, happy, rocksteady and reggae with her spitting lyrics over it in her adorable North London accent, though I kind of doubt that she's as urban or tough as she seems to think she is. I don't own this yet, even with a supposed domestic release, it's tough to find.

Strange that all my cds for August are debuts...hmmm...and all are female fronted...I guess that's strange...I dunno.
See, how cool right? Right. One last note on stuff you should be into. I've stayed away from "Cable and Deadpool" comics because while Deadpool is awesome and incredibly funny, I though Cable would get his suck all over it and it would in turn suck. Not the case! I picked up issue #30 and loved it and I'm going to find the tpbs for the earlier issues if they exist. Just a tip.
