  • the campers return

The boys have returned! Tired, a little grungy, and happy to be home. They had a blast. I am happy to have them back now. The quiet is over, but that's okay. I enjoyed the peacefulness but don't wish it to be that way all the time. Just here and there. I did get some knitting done, but not as much as I anticipated. I am trying to figure out where to start in getting this place in better order. It has fallen seriously by the wayside lately. A very sweet friend offered to bring in some fresh eyes to help make the organizing decisions with me. She got me started Friday evening. She is going to help me bits or rooms at a time. This is just the motivation I need to get things done. Someone else to offer practical suggestions for how to better lay out the things in the rooms and what to get rid of entirely! I am very excited about major purging if need be. When you are not pleased with your surroundings, you can fall into a funk. I am ready to move out of that and make this place better.

Last night, the camping "widows" went to a fondue restaurant for dinner. It was incredible! We were there for about 4 hours! What a lovely way to spend the evening. Sitting with friends whose company you enjoy and having a very leisurely meal. I was still full this morning and only had coffee and juice! For lunch, I had a tiny salad leftover from last night. I didn't eat the salad there. I wanted to make sure I had room for the final course -- the chocolate!

Today when the boys returned, they gave me a Mother's Day present. A tomato garden! We don't have space for a garden since our lot is very wooded. However, some potted ones might do. W. knows how much I adore home grown tomatoes. Given that I am the only tomato eater in the house, this truly is a present for me. So they got some large pots, some soil, and will get some plants later this week! They're going to make a tomato garden for me! I really hope they produce something. What a lovely idea! And they got a nice hanging pot of flowers to put on our screened in porch. They are great, aren't they?

Happy Mother's Day to you all!

  • Quiet -- ahhhh

The boys and hubby are off camping with the Indian Guides this weekend. It is the last outing for the season. Jake will officially graduate from the group. He'll still go to the outings next year though. But he gets to go through the ritual of moving on this year. He's very excited about that! His best friend graduated last year but still participates in the outing and such since he also has a little brother in the group. So they get to go and be the "big" kids now. They LOVE it.

Time alone, for me, is so vital. It helps me to clear my head and appreciate them more when they return. One thing I was thinking about this morning was relating to all the time I get to spend with them since we educate at home. One thing in particular that warms my heart is the great love the boys have for books. Adam is a huge devourer of books. Jake loves to read, but not to the extent that Adam does. What makes me so happy is seeing them involved in some really interesting story. Giving them the gift of reading is one of the most important things I can do for them. Encouraging a love of books and exposure to a variety of books are things that are priceless.

  • Look at these!

I won a contest! For really nice yarn. They came today. Aren't they gorgeous? Thanks Dianne! They are so soft and wonderful. Now I need to plan on what patterns to use for these amazing yarns. They will be socks, but what patterns should I use to best complement the rich colors? Decisions, decisions, decisions. I am so excited about these yarns! I have never had such nice stuff before. Thanks again to Dianne from Creatively Dyed for being so generous with her creations.
