Well, my sister went and did it!!! I have a new found respect for her. She had Lasik eye surgery Sat.  She even had Dr. Della Russo himself do it. He was one of the first that ever performed such surgery. My eyes are tearing just talking about it.

I think even Tiger Woods had it done. Mmmmm do you think that's what improved his game???

Steps to the Procedure:

Prior to the procedure, an extremely detailed map of your eyes’ surface is created by a computer and then used by your TLC surgeon to calibrate the excimer laser to your exact prescription. Before going into the laser room, your TLC technician will put a few anesthetic drops in to numb the eye and prevent pain.

Once the laser has been properly calibrated, the surgeon will place an eyelid holder in your eye to keep it open throughout the procedure. The surgeon then uses a microkeratome (an automated microsurgical instrument similar in design to a carpenter's plane) to create a corneal flap, that has a thickness of approximately ¼ of the cornea’s depth.  A cool laser beam of light from the excimer laser is then used to precisely and gently reshape the cornea. (Youza!!!!! a Capenter's plane! let that speak for itself)

When the surgeon is finished, the flap (did you get that, the flap???) is carefully put back into place and the eyelid holder is removed.  Over the next few days, the flap will heal and bond more securely.

The entire procedure only takes about five minutes to complete and the laser is on each eye for less than one minute for an average prescription.

  OUCH!!!!

Ouch and double yuck!!!!  Glad that i have good vision...well, that depends on who you ask.  I can see the street signs, during the day, but at night, I'm lucky if I don't have to pass the block before I can read what the street name is

Yor sister is a trooper.  Are you next???

GOOD FOR YOUR SISTER!!!!  I know most people get freaked out about eye surgery - I chickened out at least once before I went through with RK (the 'old-fashioned' version of Lasik surgery).  Once I did it though... I was THRILLED with the results immediately!  That was five years ago!  No regrets!  Life without contacts and glasses is soooo great!    I hope she has as good a result as me!  It's the best money I ever spent on myself!

I originally started going to school for a degree in the optical field, and I can tell you this procedure involves VERY little if any pain....and the machine they use for the detailed reading is actually a corneal topographer.  It's an amazing machine.

I haven't actually had LASIK done - but as someone who's worn glasses/contacts since 2nd grade, and worked in the field for a while -   I'm seriously considering doing it this summer!

Ditto what James said.  I'm not getting surgery like that till they can do something really spectacular...like Bionic Man or the Borg, spectacular.

I don't like glasses. I always say if I had the money I would do this but I don't know if I would surgery really hurts and some people don't have very good luck with the procedure. I do want to see better but your sister is braver than me. Jass

Fun picture

Hope your sister has/retains good results.  It seems to be more effective w/younge people.  My father (who's no spring chicken) had the surgery a few years ago.  It was good for awhile...but then deteriorated A LOT.  He's supposed to go in for another surgery w/new technology, but they keep putting it off...
